Cornell Early Decision Interviews

I recently applied to the College of Arts and Sciences under Early Decision and had an interview a few days ago. It seemed quite urgent considering that the interviewer called 3 days before. The interview itself seemed pretty weak. The interviewer did not ask me anything about Cornell, just about my school and family.Has anyone else gotten an interview? A lot of people are telling me that this is a good sign, but doesn't everyone get interviewed?

Everyone gets interviews; for CAS, they're all but meaningless.

its not even an interview..everyone gets it and like towerpumpkin said, it doesnt mean much. it's more for you to gain information about cornell, not the other way around

Not true... the interviewer submits a blurb about the conversation and basically what they learned about you to Cornell, and it is considered in admission. However, unless you beat the interviewer or scream random obscenities, it'll almost always works for your benefit (if anything). So yeah, it's not huge, but Cornell does hear about it.

Like I said, they're all but meaningless. As long as you don't screw up, the report sent it will be pretty much the same for everyone, thus you won't get any real benefit from the interview. You need to do it, but its not important.

It is practically meaningless that is what the RD interviewer said to me. It can only help she added. Just gives us a chance to ask more about the Uni.

my son applied ED to CAS and no one has contacted him for any kind of interview??? bad sign??

no ... they just prolly don't have enough time to schedule an interview. not all cornellians who get accepted have an interview.

my son applied ED to CAS and no one has contacted him for any kind of interview??? bad sign??

Not a bad sign. It might mean there aren't many in the alumni assoc in your area.

but my daughter is a recruited athlete and had an official athletic visit on campus. I suppose under those circumstances they know enough about her without an interview. SHe's on the coach's list and is anticipating a good outcome based on what the coaches have relayed to her so far. THe coaches were the one contacting her to let her know there were missing items and they contacted her when her application was complete and sent to the college for review. They have told her they will know before she does and they will let her know the outcome but to anticipate a good one.

That's good news, mep's mom!

I did not apply to Cornell ED, but am RD. This is what I have heard about interviews for the schools where it is optional:

An excellent interview will not really help an applicant although a really bad interview 'could' hurt an otherwise great application.

NOT everyone gets an interview. they don't have them required because they can't accomodate everyone. If you don't get contacted, it's fine.
