Major: Mechanical Engineering!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!

Chances aren’t great. Test scores are particularly good, especially for Cornell.

GPA is low, but with the upward trend, it probably does’t put you out of the game.

Your ECs are decent, but not great imo.

All three of these in combination probably means a reject. Fortunately for you, you have plenty of time to get your test scores up and improve your ECs.

Good luck!

Test scores are not very good for Cornell Engineering. 2250+ and 750+ for SAT and Subject Tests would improve chances. If Cornell is a dream school, apply by all means, but given GPA and EC’s, odds are looking slim.

@asianfang do you know any other top tier engineering schools I could ED to, if I got a 750+ on math 2?

Georgia Tech, Rose Hulman, Purdue, and Michigan are more attainable schools. With top-tier and prestige and ED, I have none… UPenn and Columbia (which have lesser known but still respectable engineering programs) are higher reaches in terms of acceptance rate, and HYPMS are even more selective.

However, you have around a year to make your profile as strong as possible. Summer camps, internships, research, combined with stellar scores and higher gpa could make you viable for Cornell.

@asianfang Thanks! What do you think about Ed to cmu. And rd to USC?

Financial aid at CMU is notoriously bad so keep that in mind if you need it.

@Falcon1 How bad is it, I think my family can afford 35-45k/year. any other suggestions?

Two tips:

Self study BC Calc
also take the ACT and aim for 34 or higher
