General Comments: Sorry if its kinda vague but I don't think I left anything out. I'll be taking my app incredibly seriously. Just keep in mind, for those relatively uninformed, that the Dyson School goes by SUNY tuition and is highly competitive within NY (on top of having typical Ivy-level competition)

Simple Reach, Match system is fine for an answer. Thanks

AEM is really competitive. Are you going to take your SAT again?

I didn’t intend to. Is it going to be detrimental if I don’t raise it?

EDIT: I’ve also already taken it twice and have heard that taking it 3+ times will actually be a negative no matter the score

What about taking the ACT? I’m not an expert by any means but maybe SAT math is a little low for business?

Oh I thought math came first. The 770 was in math. Additionally, I’ve heard that going for something other than finance or accounting can help a lot (I want to go for something related to international business- even if it isn’t offered specifically to undergraduates). If its out of 1600, which I think admissions to this school is, I have a 1460.

I will be taking the ACT and I’m shooting for a 32-33. Also, according to the act-sat conversion, a 2190 is about a 33. Is that really too low?

Sorry for asking so many questions. I’m relatively unfamiliar with this program’s admissions process and, well, I want to be.

Please don’t put too much credence in anything I’m saying because I’m really not an expert. I don’t think Cornell considers the writing.

Would you consider ILR or Econ or Human Ecology? I’ve just heard that it’s really hard to get into AEM. They only take 100 kids I think. There’s also a university-wide business minor now.

Actually, I was, if I were to be accepted, planning on taking a few classes in ILR in order to satisfy the international aspect of having a major that is even remotely relevant to international business.

Also, I heard in a tour that I went on a few days ago at the campus that its possible to ‘double-apply’ two separate schools if you are considered both a competitive applicant and a potential asset to the school. So, i guess if they review my application to AEM and get rejected from the CALS school and still think I can be Cornell potential, they’ll hand my app over to a school like ILR to be re-reviewed.

Have you heard about this and if so, am I correct in my thinking?

I think you will be fine… just put a lot of time on your essaies.

Whatever you do, do NOT apply to 2 schools. We went to a program session for ILR and the guy (an admissions guy at ILR) said that he doesn’t know why they now allow you to apply to 2 schools because it almost guarantees that you will be rejected by both. Cornell is all about fit (except maybe arts and sciences). The guy said that you can’t write 2 convincing essays about why you’re perfect for AEM and ILR. And both schools will read both essays.

If you want to apply to ILR, you better come up with reasons why. Are you a debater? Do you care about the plight of downtrodden workers? Do you know anyone who works in HR? Or could you come up with a convincing story about any of these things?
