CORNELL ED CHANCES --- SORRY ITS LONG!

Hey
I am applying Cornell ED but my stats are probs low :/

ACT 31
SAT 2: Math 2: 750, USH: 750

NHS (sec)
NTHS
I am guessing ap scholar something? idk I have scores but I haven't received anything about awards
Pharmaceutical week program at a pharm college (wont say bc of privacy)
I KNOW I AM MISSING MORE BUT I JST CANT THINK RN

essays: shud be good, gonna make a uniue approach to traveling. I know all ppl talk about international travel but imam take a uniqe approach by not only saying what I learned and why I wanna go into the science field, but how other wrlds differentiare from us and how America is isolated from the rest of the world and the only way we can understand others is by embracing diversity ((THIS IS BETTER IN MY HEAD). I plan on starting my essays this wednesay and will write and edit probs till October) --- Same for supplements. for cornell sup ill talk about how I love doing everything and although I have interests in science I don't know what I wanna do for sure because I also love history and math. and cornell will be able to make my interests focused
Recs: Teacher 1: This will be pretty good I think (known him all 4 years, always get him stuf when I travel. loves me)
Teacher 2: Science teacher, loves me. Practically best friends. we talk crap about other teachers together lol
Director of Lab: hes rlly good and nice and will probs write me a stellar rec. especially coming from someone in a governemtnal lab position I think this will be good

HOOKS: my dad went to college but my mom didn't so idk if that's first gen. technically it is but technically it isn't
FA: YES

I know I amm missing more stuff but this shud be enough
ASIDE FROM CHANCING ME FOR CORNELL ED COULD I ALSO BE CHANCED FOR ED/RD FOR ALL THESE:

Johns Hopkins
NYU
Uroch

SORRY FOR ALL MY SPELLING, WRITING RLLY FAST

when I meant 11th grade… these grades are from 9,10,11. the c was in 10

oh…and im Asian… sighh

You have a solid shot at cornell but, cornell is a weird one. It will reject an over qualified student for a semi-qualified student.

Wow, that’s a LOT of EC’s. Good luck choosing which ones to include on the common app! With that many, I don’t see how you could possibly dedicate enough time to all of them, so make sure to put only the ones you’re really passionate about. Aside from that, you seem strong with EC’s, recs, and hopefully essays. Your GPA is low, and your ACT is low as well. I think colleges will be able to overlook the low GPA if you can get your ACT up to a 32 at least. Cornell ED will still be a reach, but I think you’ll have a good shot.

Regular decision chances:
Johns Hopkins- high reach
NYU- reach
Uroch- match
RPI- idk what school this is
WPI- idk what school this is
U Rich- match
George Town- high reach
CaseWestern- match
BU- high match
Northeastern- match
UNC Chapel Hill- high reach
McGill- match
Uwash- match

My ec Arendt accuslly that much it seems like a lot but it is focused all in one gener area- health sciences. And the ec I have I’ve been doing for a long time. Like scioly-6 years. And around 4 regional medals etc. I’ll narrow down a few but for the most part they are all generated towards my interest for science and music

Because of privacy reasons I don’t wanna say…but if bu, unc, or uroch, happened to be one of the colleges in my hometown wus I have a Better shot?

If you don’t report your AP scores, many schools just assume you failed those exams. If you are National AP Scholar, I would definitely report those scores.

Idk what award I have. But I have majority of 3,4,5. Lowest being a 3. I thought ap scores don’t matter when it comes to admission

ECs look great, but the GPA is a killer since for nearly every school GPA and course rigor are the top things considered. This isn’t meant to demean you, but you have REALLY challenged yourself, and it could buy you some points depending on the context of your school (or really the number of AP classes offered versus how many you took), but if not, you could be looking at a roadblock for getting into Cornell. As for you AP scores, report them. I just visited Cornell, and if I recall (I forget if this is true; I’ve been on so many visits lately), Cornell assumes that you failed the AP test if you don’t report it, so report them. I think that if you don’t get accepted to Cornell ED, then you would be deferred, which if you bring your grades up, can give you a really solid shot in the RD pool.

Chance me please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1675633-chance-for-cornell-columbia-upenn-johns-hopkins-and-more-will-chance-back.html#latest

I was looking at your EC’s and noticed SNHS. I searched it up but couldn’t get enough insight. Could you please briefly explain to me what it is. It sounds like a great club and was just curious to know. Also I’m here to see what people are doing to get into such superior colleges so I can try and do my best to do the same. (I’m a HS Sophomore)

@kevinjuan il my gpa is a killer. I didn’t fail any of my ap exams but I do have quite a few 3’s on the exam. Won’t that make me look bad? I’m trying to bring my act up for the September test and if I have too again in the October test. I’m retaking the SAT2 in October to get 800 in us and math 2. Hopefully those will make my gpa look better. Ik I have above avg ec so hopefully that will help. Yes I have REALLY challenged my school. My school offer some 20 Ap classes and around 3 of them art art and like 4 are language. So other than that I have taken nearly every AP offered at school by the time of senior grad.

Getting the grade of C in a single class won’t necessarily kill you (if you have a reasonable explanation). Was the class graded on a curve? Is this teacher notoriously difficult? If yes then have your GC explain this in the letter.

You have a hodge-podge of ECs with no clear focus. SAT 2 scores look pretty good. Course rigor is nice.

A lot depends on which school within Cornell you are applying to? What are you listing as your intended major?

@sgopal2 I don’t know why everyone keeps saying my EC aren’t focused. They are all focused into one area- science and I have spent a lot of time in them. Yes, I have some EC that are not science related like music and dance but that’s not necessarily bad. You can’t just admit someone with all science or all history…that’s not "well rounded
I’m applying the CAS

CAS will be a reach given your low ACT score. Ag may be easier for you.

Don’t list more than 6 ECs on the common app. If you do list more then you run the mistake of being perceived as lack of focus. Sorry this is tough to hear but it’s the honest truth.

If you are in-state, you’ll get a good boost towards one of the state-funded colleges in Cornell, like the Ag school.

CAS would probably be a reach, but Ag school could go down as low as a match if you’re instate, because of the quality of some of your ECs (which are probably being drowned out by your giant list).

Do you know how your GPA compares to your school?

@sgopal2 I thought CALS was harder to get into than CAS

@happyhelper I don’t live New York. I’m not instate for Cornell. I looked into CALS and the majors are not bad because I am interested in the biological sciences area so I’m fine with applying to CALS. Would I still have a shot. I can’t tell you exactly how it compares because I don’t know my rank which I think is crucial.

If you are not a NY state resident, then the chances of admission to Ag is indeed a bit lower. However your chances at Ag are still probably higher than CAS. Are there any majors within the Ag school that are remotely appealing to you? If so try to highlight how you would be a good fit for the Ag school
