This is not a troll account. I just got too carried away with my ECs and didn't focus on my grades enough. Any recommendations on where to apply would be great because Cornell and UT are the only schools on my list at the moment.

Forgot to mention 800 on Math II and US History subject test

Never seen such great EC’s with such a low gpa so I can’t really say but I think it would be a high match for you. The danger lies in one of the officers thinking of you as phony or arrogant (with regards to grades) so it isn’t a sure thing by any stretch .

@theanaconda His/her grades aren’t bad in my opinion. I would like to know their weighted gpa and your ap scores though. Hopefully it’s alot higher, but your ec’s are fantastic.

I think you have a good chance ED (high match?), considering the ECs and leadership…Cornell ED admit is pretty high compared with the other Ivies…Maybe raise the ACT to 33 and the SAT to around 2200?

Chance me back please?

My grades were all As except for 1 semester junior year (3 Bs) because of family issues. Otherwise, I’ve had really good grades except Spanish, but I brought that up to an A junior year. My weighted is a 4.1.

A 3.73 UW is a little low, but if it was only one semester and due to family issues, you can probably explain that. Your SAT and ACT are also on the low side, but your EC’s are great. I agree with the consensus that it is a high match. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you got in.

Chance back

Thanks. I’m retaking ACT and anticipating a 33+. Will the fact that I go to a highly ranked school help b/c I feel that I take a hard course load and my school’s rank must mean something?

Actually had a friend almost exactly like you who got into Cornell ED! A bit higher of a GPA but high 2000’s in his SAT’s. He’s Indian, too, haha. But anyways, should have a pretty good shot with those nice EC’s! Good luck!

Thanks! Any recommendations on other schools I should apply to?

bump10char

your ec’s look really good, and your scores are not at all terrible
with ED, i would say you have a good chance of getting in!
for additional schools, i suggest some reach tech schools since you won a lot of awards in that area

Hey thanks for replying to my thread! So your EC’s are pretty amazing and your involvement in and out of the classroom is very good! I think the only downside you might have is with those B’s but if you can explain those well they shouldn’t be that much of a problem. As for explaining your EC’s on your application, I would try and stay as humble as possible and just be really honest about why you did those activities and how you learned from them. I have heard of admissions officers seeing so many leadership and outside school activities that it raises a “red flag” and they will scrutinize your recs and/or call your counselor to make sure you actually were involved in them (saw it on a youtube video with an ex Stanford admissions officer). If all of these are legitimate you should be a stand out applicant for sure! I think as long as you have good essays and recs you could get in ED! Good luck this fall!

Thanks for the advice! I don’t plan on listing all my activities anyways, but I just wanted to for chancing purposes. It seems pointless writing a club that has nothing to do with my intended major. Any ideas on other schools that I should apply to?

You have pretty similar stats to me, you’re EC’s are fantastic. If it’s possible bump up your SAT. Ethnicity might hurt you a little bit, but aside from that, you’re good to go! Chance me back please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1657877-does-failing-one-class-ruin-your-chances.html?new=1

Your gpa isn’t exactly “low” but I think you have a great chance especially with your extra curriculars. What about your LOR’s? and essays? are you confident with both?
