Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@hoghedge I don’t think it would make sense for Cornell to send out likely letters ED because, from my understanding, likely letters are to woo the super strong candidates and win them over because they’re probably going to get accepted to other schools as well. Cornell’s ED is binding so all the super strong applications applying are already committing to Cornell.

Either way, good luck!

@ebiersack It doesn’t mean anything because they are judging you through your junior year only. It says so somewhere in the application website. They want you to upload first term transcripts after you get them but that’s well after decisions are made. I’ve never heard of anyone being specifically asked to send in the first set of senior grades before the ED decisions come out.

@cotopaxi you seem to know what you’re talking about. I was wondering how do they even choose people. I went on the 2020 decisions thread and read some acceptance and rejections and there is zero rhyme or reason to it. like there were people with 2300 getting rejected but then people with 2250 getting in… I’m just so nervous! and the waiting is killing me i need answers and i hate doing nothing!!!

Thanks @cotopaxi !

I heard that it is always best to send all of your act/sat scores if you have an upward trend of improvement so they can see that you have been working hard, etc. What is your take on that?

@hamsamcam17 Thanks. I really don’t know that much, I just absorb data for some reason. And I read a lot. Anyway, my parents hired a consultant to help me understand the application process since they were clueless. That person helps me understand a lot of the behind the scenes stuff since she used to be an admissions person at a selective university.

Anyway, I know right? It seems to be random how they select people, but if you dig deep in the stats and how they describe their essays, it’s all about fit. I read one guy’s profile where he wanted to get into Dyson business but had a bunch of extra curriculars that had nothing to do with business and everything to do with a camping trip where he almost got eaten by a bear and how he grew up from the experience. Scary story but what’s that got to do with working on Wall Street? Needless to say he was rejected.

I’m a competitive dancer of 10 years with more bone and joint injuries than I can count. I’m only 17 and can barely walk sometimes. So that’s why I want to get into biomedical engineering, and I tailored my essays to connect dancing, it’s toll on my body, and how I want to find solutions to joint problems. That’s the best I could do. If they don’t want me, it’s their loss.

If all of us on this thread get in, we should all meet for coffee in Ithaca.

Is it a bad sign if I didn’t get any financial stuff updated? I have no current item to do…

is anyone experiencing their portal not working? mine is working completely fine, but i remember seeing in a past thread that having your portal not work the days leading up to the decision was a sign of “foreshadowing” of an acceptance

@acceptme2021 I highly doubt there is any correlation lol

@hoghedge Technically Cornell requires all SAT scores regardless. I was trying hard to keep from sending my first SAT sitting because I barely cracked 2000. But my counselor said I had to because they have ways of getting it all anyway from college board. But a lot of people ignore that. The ACT you only have to send in your best single sitting or they also super score, so at Cornell at least, the ACT is actually the better test because you can choose just one - unless of course you killed it on the SAT in your first sitting. My counselor said, as long as you’re not taking the SAT or ACT 5, 6 or more times, poor scores with an upward trend the next one or two times, actually is a positive. I only took three tests in total: first old SAT 2090, second old SAT 2250, then ACT 34 composite. I was sick of taking tests and my counselor agreed three was enough so I submitted the ACT. But I sent my SATs as well since they ask for them and to show an upward trend.

Either way, they have a way of seeing everything anyway so I just send it all. I’m not trying to game the system. They take me for who I really am, flaws and all, or I go somewhere else.

Guys can we make this thread blow up like the penn thread??? that would be LIT

lol this thread is blowing up really fast to be quite frank

@ebiersack they will ask for semester grades later in the year, they don’t ask till later.

@ebiersack I’m glad to read hypsmgod was just a fake troll. I’m sure he just posted that fake stats thread to get people stressed out even more. Sadistic jerk.

Does it matter that I didn’t get the 11/01/2017 to do list request?

Link?

what does it mean if everything on your financial aid to do list is “initiated”?

I am international. I’ll pay full tuition if I get in.
Have nothing on my TO-DO-LIST…

@OhComeONMan I doubt it’s anything to worry about. Common sense is that Cornell has this application process down to a science so they aren’tgoing to tip their hand based on some random pieces of missing information. It’s funny how much false information gets into these threads based on rumor. Also, when I was talking with the financial aid lady a couple weeks ago, she said their systems are not connected. So what happens in the financial aid site, is not technically connected to the admissions site. Don’t read anything into it.

@cotopaxi lol that’s EXACTLY what my mom said, can’t agree more. Also, if you have stalked this site like me, you’ll see that people from last year who were asked for additional finaid info or had those due dates had different admissions decisions. Some got in, some didn’t. We will find out in 4 days guys!
