Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

My friends, it’s almost time. I’ve been stressed about college for over 3 years, and here I am on the week of my decision nearly stress free. It’s just been so long and I’m tired of stressing. If I get denied, so be it; one going I’ve learned through this process is to just stop worrying and be happy for the opportunity. No matter what happens to us all on Thursday, it should be sobering to know that we’ll all be successful regardless of where we go. If Cornell doesn’t think you’re a good fit, find a place that appreciates you and what you bring to the table. Good luck to all, and hopefully one day we all see each other!

@reformedman In my opinion, that is not the way it works. An open position will generally have a salary range, but for new hires, there is generally one salary, and this is not usually open for too much discussion. Better colleges allow grades to secure (on average) jobs with higher paying companies, which is why they tend to reflect a better overall starting salary. All this goes out the window if you factor in graduate school of course.

@OCNYmom But you applied ED right? How much aid do you think you will receive based on the cost calculator?

I’ve been refreshing this page and my email all day… anyone else have any new information?

Lol I’m doing the same exact thing. The problem is I don’t even have any hw so I’m just sitting here worrying all day. I’m about to go play tennis in the freezing cold just to get my mind off things.

Yes. She applied ED. My husband works at a college and prepared our FAFSA. Our contribution is set at $38,000. My husband is not optimistic that Cornell
will offer enough in grants to make it work. We will have to see.

Any ideas on how to cope with a rejection? I know it’s very unlikely that I’ll get into Cornell, but for some reason it’s hard for me to swallow that fact. I know the whole “oh don’t worry we will all be successful” type thing, but honestly going too a prestigious university makes a pretty big difference in terms of opportunities and resources. I guess the hardest part about getting rejected would be worrying about apps all over again and going through the rest of the school year. Oh well I guess whatever happens is for the best.

Also, are you guys gonna check your decision right away once you receive the notification? Or are you gonna wait for “the right moment” whatever that may be?

Guys any idea when we receive the email. Really don’t want the decision to be delayed any further. Have been pissing my pants all day :((

I’m gonna try as hard as I can to hold out until Friday night, since I’ll be on a school trip! But if I can’t resist, I’ll check it late Thursday night.

One of my friends applied ED to Columbia and they were supposed to hear back Thursday too but it got pushed to Monday… Hopefully that won’t be happening to us.

No email today so maybe decisions won’t be out this Thursday…

8:00am on Friday for me if its this Thursday. Sucks to be an international applicant!!

If you get rejected you have to move on and realize that it isn’t meant to be…at least right now. You could always apply as a transfer.

As far as being successful, there is something to be said about being a bigger fish in a smaller pond. If you are aiming as high as Cornell, chances are you have the stats to get into a different top university. Some might even be ranked “higher” than Cornell, but might not be an Ivy. Regardless, your GPA and class standing will be big factors in what interviews you get if you are using on campus recruiting and/or what graduate school opportunities you receive. If you end up with a higher GPA and class standing at a school that was just slightly easier to get in to, but still has an excellent reputation, you may end up doing “better” in the long run.

Just keep an open mind. I’m sure you will have lots of choices and opportunities. And if you don’t get into Cornell this time around, there will be other chances, but you may not even decide to try again later because you may end up happy at the school you end up going to.

Good luck!

@yitian9898 I am wondering the same thing. No email received at this moment.
I still hope we can have the results by 8th…

Let’s hope for later this afternoon or tomorrow.
Because any delay will freak people out even more lol
I’m afraid that if we receive the pins later than tomorrow this thread will be blown up by excessive anxiety and disappointment…

Anyone know when we should get them assuming the 8th is correct?

@abc123ggg You never know. We could very well get the email this evening or tomorrow evening.

UPenn confirmed their results to come out on Friday. When is it out turn?!? UGGGHHHHH

They sent me the email confirming that all my application materials were received at 5 P.M. EST back in mid November, so we could very well get the email later.
