I’m a legacy
Wait, some of you legacy guys are also some of the people freaking out…You guys should relax! A lot of you guys have pretty good stats from what you’ve said previously, and I’m sure theres nothing to worry about, especially since you applied ED.
If you don’t mind can you share some stats? Im trying to figure out where I stand amongst the other legacies. Specifically those applying to Human Ecology. Thanks!
@Uni2021 I mean, you’re right but I was talking about the exact second I posted it, but its just taking the time in seconds and dividing it by 100, it’s simple (rate of change is constant, duh). The percentage each second takes does in fact vary and comes out to 100/(t^2) (Counting down like time does***) and to get the amount it changed in a second just do a definite integral from starting t to end t of 100/(t^2)dt (have to count down, so t start should be higher). This is all in decimals, so make it 1 instead of 100 in the integral if you want decimal values. Hopefully I didn’t mess up on the math (very likely), and is enough detail for you. In fact, in the time I took calculating it, the percent value per second changed by 8080/5069365609 %
I’m a legacy … to Old Dominion University
Hi @Shrilkshire! I am glad to announce that I am an admissions officer who wanted to get a good feel for the Class of 2021 at Cornell, so I inserted myself in these threads. I have seen that you are genuinely skilled at math, as seen in the post above, and I would like to offer you direct admission to CORNELL CLASS OF 2021!!! Congratulations!!!
oh my, there are so many legacies.
@IBsleeping yuppppp… and a lot of them are Human ecology. So in simple terms, Im screwed…
lol and I thought my sister legacy would help…
@vcq7890 Parent went to Cornell
ACT:31
SAT Hist:710
GPA: 3.9/4.1 (weird scale I know) - go to competitive private school in New England (not NY)
Applying to ILR ED, no aid.
E.Cs are ILR related and I think I showed a lot of interest in the school through my essays.
The problem is with such a competitive school like Cornell, admission comes down to luck. Also, my ACT could’ve been higher.
Best of luck to everyone on Thursday. I’m going to sign off from CC until then as I’m getting too stressed. haha. See you guys on the other side! Best of luck future classmates (knock on wood).
@vcq7890 I have a good feeling you’ll get in, just intuition based.
Mom and Dad both went to cornell. Applying to ILR not human ecology. 92.5 average, 8APS, 34 act, a few decent ecs that I really liked and enjoyed.
I think the importance of legacies is probably overstated from speaking with ppl in the cornell network. They aren’t taking legacies that are less qualified, but from what I hear it can be a tiebreaker. I think a lot of the reason that there are so many legacies is that the children of alumni are usually smart too and the parent’s love of Cornell is often passed down through their children. I’m not saying it doesn’t make it difference; however, i think when people deduce that Cornell loves legacies because they accept a lot of them is a little misleading. It’s partially true, but legacies are often qualified and are really passionate about attending Cornell.
Disclaimer: I do think that any preference to legacies is unfair, but I’m just making the point that the notion that legacies are getting in just bc they are legacies is too much of a blanket statement imo
Don’t sweat it. Legacy advantage is really not that great at Cornell. I fully expect not to get in, but I am taking a shot at it anyway because it’s been part of.my life as long as I can remember but more importantly because it truly is my first choice for what I want to study. I have a 31 act and 3.8 uw 4.1 w average and am applying to the CHE. I know it’s become a cliche on this board but I think it’s very true that admissions at Cornell and especially at CHE is not about stats. It’s about whether the student fits into the class they are putting together. Once you have the numbers that put you in the conversation, I honestly believe they become less important. My dad says - I promise you, someone with lower scores than you will be accepted and someone with higher scores than you won’t. Essays and a clear correlation between what you’ve done in the past and what you want to do at Cornell I think are far more important.
I wish all you guys the best of luck and hope to see you on the hill in august. Be well.
Don’t know if I’ll wait until I get home on Thursday after school (Pacific time, so decisions are out @ 3pm for me) OR if I’ll head to the restroom at 2pm and check what happened inside a nice and cozy stall. Either way, my family decided we’re going out to eat pancakes that evening to either:
- Celebrate an admission
- Still celebrate because I got deferred and there’s still hope for later
- Feel better over a rejection with the only solution: food.
Either way, it should be a memorable day for all of us and I wish you all the best best best of luck! <3
@etrac0609 and @infodump I have no problem with legacies getting in, and thats because I do understand that most of them are well qualified as well, and it makes sense to keep Cornell in the family and build a strong alumni network. However, I also understand that a ton of people will end up losing to a tiebreaker, because there are so many qualified applicants. Once again, I’m relying on my sibling legacy to push me over, even though I’m sure it means almost nothing.
OK I think I’ve said more than enough on this thread. I’ll probably stop posting for now, maybe come back thursday before 5pm. Its been real. Some people say this thread has been stressing them out, but it gave me some concrete stuff to think about, instead of daydreaming about a perfect senior year if I get in. See you later guys.
@Shrilkshire ayyyyy me too!
Does anyone know how big the nutritional sciences major in CALS is and what exactly they look for? And do you think working for a farm at farmer’s markets is a “hook” for CALS?
@soulsurfer99 lmao I applied ED to Penn, so I will be one day behind you (in results), but that sounds like an amazing plan. I may just have to go out for pancakes to cope lol. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!! Hopefully they will be happy pancakes!!
btw quick question about a deferral, can we send in another letter of recommendation, or something extra like a letter explaining how much we love cornell to push the admissions officers to accept us during the regular decision time??
@financemajor37 Pancakes…pancakes are incredible ahaha. Thank you so very much- LIKEWISE! Hopefully we’ll both be eating celebratory pancakes!
Im applying ED to the hotel school. I have not seen many others. Do I have a good chance?
ACT: 33
APs: AB Calculus, Physics 1, Physics 2
GPA: W 4.46/5
I worked in a small local grocery for two plus years and wrote both essays on my perspective being changed on the food industry and why I really want to pursue hospitality and business.
I am freaking out because my gpa is not the highest.
Three sport athlete as well and captain
Any thoughts?
Looks like they have sent the email. I have not received it yet

If you did not receive an email outlining the online admission decision viewing instructions, please contact Cornell at undergradapp@cornell.edu.
@shep888 according to https://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000003.pdf it says that no one was accepted under “NO COLLEGE DESIGNATED” which i assume to be the same as undecided? not sure though
