december 11 I thin
apparently everyone gets them. i doubt it means anything though. to me, it seems kinda silly to get our hopes up/ do information interviews/ get excited about research opportunities when we haven’t even been admitted to the school. kinda… cruel in a way. life isn’t always fair though.
oh okk
does anyone know if HUMEC gets a likely call ED because apparently they get likely calls for RD
@nycccc how long after applying did u get this? i applied early decision to aap and i did not get it. im not a ny resident or urm, or legacy so i think thats why i didnt get it.
@18butterflies personally, i got it maybe a week after applying
I think most of you already had your interviews, but I’ll share a little about mine.
- It was almost two hours long, but that’s longer than average. She said usually they take 45 min-1 hour to complete.
- I wore black (unripped) jeans, a blouse, ankle boots, and a cardigan.
- I was the only one asking questions. I brought a list of about 10, but I ended up not looking at it after my first question because it ended up being very conversational and I did not want to keep looking down and asking her questions mechanically.
- It went well, and you can tell that their alumni really, really love Cornell. After we “ended,” she continued to explain how great Cornell was for her. I think I almost started tearing up, it was great seeing someone love their school so much!
Don’t sweat it! They want you to get in! Don’t get flustered or too uptight about asking questions. Also, if you didn’t get an interview, don’t worry. It’s purely based on availability and won’t hurt your chances. I’ve heard of plenty who’ve gotten in without interviews. They weren’t necessarily 210% perfect applicants either, just your average hopeful applicant.
where did you get dec 11 from?
how do you know?
My S has not received an email about the university-wide recognition programmes. I checked out the programmes mentioned and they are only awarded to a very small fraction of the matriculating class so I doubt they are sent to the majority of ED applicants. My D, who was accepted to Cornell a few years ago, got this kind of letter before she was formally offered a place so I think it is a good sign for you if you were lucky enough to get one.
past Cornell ED results dates have been typically between 8-11 dec. IMHO AO will release the exact date closer to the time. It seems to vary slightly every year.
@daddog did your D also get a place in one of these recognition programmes?
Here is the CAAAN calendar https://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/CAAANCalendar.pdf notice the ED date says mid-December. Last year it had an exact date, however, as it got closer to the ED date, Cornell had to notify applicants that they had to delay the ED decision. A friend of mine who had a child in that batch told me they believe it was because they had more applicants than usual and they has some storm power outages around that time. I would guess because of that, they are not going to commit to a specific date this year until it’s closer. Then about 3 days in advance they email a link for the applicants to use to sign in to check their decision on that particular day and time. Also, other than last year, the decision has been on a Thursday at least the last few years and was supposed to be on a Thursday last year until they pushed it to the Monday. So if they go back to that, then it would seem like it would be either December 6 or 13. But the 6th does seem awfully early, especially if CAAAN narratives aren’t due until Nov 30.
I also wonder if based on the article in the Cornell Sun about how they do their admissions, if there are some that don’t get a CAAAN interview, because there must be some that are obvious poor candidates that just apply for the “fun” of it but really have no chance at getting in. Low scores and low grades?
Are likely calls only for RD for humanec? does anyone know?
6 years ago they did not call it the same, but D was invited into a similar research-based programme before she was accepted formally (she went elsewhere for non-academic reasons)
I honestly doubt that the recognition program email means anything. It’s just a way for you to get excited about Cornell. I also get emails asking my to follow them on instagram and join the center for diversity, etc
What are the CAAAN narratives that are due by Nov 30?
Yeah, I doubt that decisions will be released earlier than the 10th. Everyone is reporting an extremely high number of applicants.
What do you mean by everyone is reporting a high number of applicants?
We just checked our financial aid to do list and it’s no longer blank! There are several items on on our list marked “initiated” !
