Cornell ED Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

So does not being contacted for an interview put you at disadvantage?

i dont think it does. getting an interview can only help but not getting one doesnt count as a negative

my interviewer kept saying that he is not part of the admissions committee and the sole purpose of the interview was informational

In previous years, anyone admitted through ED without being contacted for an interview?

Honestly, stop stressing this much, uni said many times interview doesn’t matter at all.

Please answer these questions:

  1. COE website says "We require a current senior-year grade report. For early decision, this is a quarter-year report." https://www.engineering.cornell.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/first-year-applicants Should I ask my counselor to send the report or wait for email from Cornell?
  2. I haven't received the email for interview yet. Is that common for COE applicants?
  3. I have 3 items in "To Do List". Aid Application Certification, Federal Tax Return-Parent, IDOC submission. I uploaded the Aid Application Certification form today in IDOC. Federal Tax Return was submitted few weeks ago. Why did they ask for it again ? This whole financial aid thing is very confusing. ~X(
  1. If they'll need it they'll email you, at the end of the day, go to your counselor and ask. If you're a trimester school, I've seen that they don't need it even.
  2. I'm apping to COE and had an interview and I'm from UK. Just understand that they have lots and lots of applicants, and apparently this year it's even higher number than previously, and they can't accommodate interviews for everyone, hence no worries mate.
  3. They're still processing docs, which, as mentioned in point 2 they have to do for many students. At last, if you're too frustrated, reach out to them. The admissions is there to help.

S’s interviewer showed him the form that had to be filled in after the interview and they went through it together. It was purely informational and not evaluative in any way.

Except for certain majors (ie Architecture) they don’t call it an interview, as someone above mentioned, it is only informational, and with the thousands that apply, when they only have until November 30 to turn in their summaries, just assume they cannot get to everyone. So, don’t fret about it or you’ll drive yourself crazy! If they don’t have enough alumni where you are plus with Thanksgiving being early this year, maybe they couldn’t swing it.

For the person who said they don’t want to go to Cornell anymore, if you’re serious, then just go to the applicant status page and withdraw your application. Don’t take an opportunity away from someone else.

For the person asking about grades. We were perplexed about this as well and finally contacted the college my D is applying to and they actually did require the Quarterly grades, even though these were not semester or on the transcript. I am sure they just want to make sure she does not have senioritis yet and hasn’t changed any of the classes she previously reported. They never emailed her to request it, nor did they show it as listed, other than is some remote place on their website, so don’t be fooled by not seeing it on your applicant page because she didn’t either.

@srparent15 I said I don’t wanna go to Cornell anymore bc let’s be honest. I know my chances and have my eyes on another school that I’m more likely to get in. If I get in with subpar grades and essays I wrote the day of, then Cornell should be a walk in the park for everyone else.

@Ermolka Thank you for your responses.
@srparent15 I have semester system in my high school. I do have 1st quarter report from 1st semester. I am little hesitant to send it as I have a B in one of the class. Until now I have been maintaining 4.00 unweighted, 4.30 weighted by end of junior year. May be I will ask my counselor for advice.

@srparent15, did you send the grades yourself, or have the GC send them? This is the first I am hearing about this. My son’s grades just came out 2 days ago and I know that that our school does not send them unless the college specifically requests it from them. My D applied ED to COE 2 years ago and never sent her quarterly grades, so this may be new.

@patatty The school’s college counseling office sent them. Your school should send them to undergradapp@cornell.edu or through Naviance. If you send them, they aren’t considered “official” so you need to have the school do it. Our school recently changed how they do grades so the report they send is now like a progress report instead of a report card, so it winds up hurting the students from our school more so than it helps which is a bummer, but our semester ends after the ED date. Hopefully they are really looking for someone who as I said has a huge downturn as opposed to having a slight decrease. I would think they would be receptive of the courseloads these students are taking while at the same time adding to that the college application process and tons of essays these kids had to write, for Early Action schools in addition to ED Cornell, etc.

This is from the COE website. Not sure if other schools list their requirements, but you can see they require the grades by today, although I’m sure they don’t hold to that.

"Students and parents can use the College Board’s Pros and Cons of Applying to College Early to weigh their options.

ED application deadline: November 1
ED financial aid application for international students deadline: November 1
ED financial aid application for U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens deadline: November 21
ED testing deadline: October test dates are the latest scores accepted
ED quarter-year report due: Thanksgiving
ED admissions decisions released: Mid-December"

My high school doesnt send midyear grades until February. Is that okay for cornell?

Thanks @srparent15. I’ll contact the GC on Monday and make sure his grades are sent. Our quarterly grades are only considered “estimated” progress reports too. Happy Thanksgiving and good luck to everyone!

Does anyone have an idea of the approximate date that the Cornell ED results being posted? I know according to the Cornell website they will come out “mid-December” but I was wondering if anyone knew around what week in December based on previous years.

I think earlier in this thread people were saying either dec 6 or dec 13 but most likely dec 13

In the past few years it came out around 9-11th

I’m assuming at this stage I won’t get an interview ED

I didn’t get an invite either. Not worried because I asked the kids from my high schoo who got into Cornell last year from and none of them (4) did not get them either, 2 ED, 2 RD. I’m in NYC area.
