EDing Dyson. Finger crossed for that. Is anyone applies to ED taking the sat in October?
PeiMyWei I’m applying to dyson and will be taking SAT in oct too. Expecting 1500-1530,what are you expecting
Should I click the spring admissions option? I am super torn about this. Am I less likely to be admitted in the fall if I click this?? (I am applying ED if it makes a difference)
@ahumanperson you shouldn’t worry about it so much. It may be just a data point on the application form however could also underline your positive interest. My son applied (and was admitted) ED in the Fall and from memory, had checked that option. All the best!
@SimplyRed d thanks! that makes me feel better hope your son enjoys cornell!
Hello all,
I’m a current senior and an international student (although I live in and attend a US high school), and Cornell is a good school for me regarding financial aid and their high percentage of international students. I am planning to apply early decision.
GPA: 92 UW 96 W
ACT: 35
SAT: Math II - 710, Bio M - 740
ECs:
JROTC - Drill Team Commander & Company Commander (leadership positions)
Science Research (Silver medal, gold medal @ County science fair)
JV Tennis
Volunteered at Liberty Science Center
Volunteered at Jersey City Medical Center
My extra curricular activities are a short list, but JROTC alone takes 10+ hours a week during the school year, so hopefully they’ll look at quality not quantity. All my extra curricular activities take a lot of time and commitment.
APs: APUSH - 4, AP World - 4, AP Chemistry - 4, AP Physics 1 - 4, AP Biology - 5
Taking AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, AP Lit and AP Lang in the upcoming year.
I’m interested in majoring in Biological Sciences, which means I would apply to either CAS or CALS. My subject tests aren’t great, so I might apply to CALS.
@currydaddy If you are majoring in biological sciences, CALS and CAS would be equally competitive, since it’s the major that lots of premed kids go for
I am applying to College of Engineering ED and couldn’t find the supplement on my common app. I just want to know if there is still supplement for that college
I’m applying ED for Human Ecology: Design and Environmental Analysis.
You have to select your major before any of the writing supplements appear, you might want to check into that @agbani
Hi:
For computer science major, anybody know what is the difference between Engineering and art &Science college. Both have the computer science major, which one is more difficult to be accepted?
Hi @firsttime123 - I do not know whether Cornell provides details of acceptance rates (broken down by majors) for its various colleges, so I cant comment on which is easier to be accepted into. What I do suggest is that is that if you arent studying mathematics and physics courses at a high level during high school, you may not want to consider the College of Engineering. Both CoE and CA&S are endowed colleges and very competitive. And based on informal feedback that i have heard from Cornell students, ultimately a computer science major from either college is viewed similarly by employers.
Thanks a lot for your information.
Also looking into ED cs. I want to apply to CAS because I think the distribution requirements fit me more. ACT 35 but a shallow 3.86 gpa, only top 20% of my class
Dear Friend,
Am still deciding whether to apply to Cornell in ED for my son for Fall 2019 …we need financial aid badly… we are Indians from Delhi , India…what do you suggest keeping in mind that around 50K $ of aid per year would be needed ? What are the admission chances for International students requiring lots of financial aid at Cornell for class of 2023…Thnx, Regards … S Ghosh
@Pencha I would recommend applying RD, since then you can compare between other colleges. For instance, if the other ivies offer a lower price, Cornell will match it. Might help you out if the financials are extremely dire, as an ED binds you to whatever cost they assign you. Correct me if I’m mistaken
Cornell is no longer need blind for international candidates and aid is limited: https://finaid.cornell.edu/sites/finaid.cornell.edu/files/International%20FinAid%20FAQs.pdf
IMO, if your son has strong stats, look at ED’ing to a school that meets full demonstrated need. There aren’t many for international candidates but they do exist. There are good threads in the international student sub forum.
Hey guys!! I’m EDing to Arts & Sciences. Really excited and a little (a LOT) nervous!! Hope we all get in
@Pencha - I suggest your son also looks at Harvard and Princeton as they are need-blind admission policy and need-based financial aid, including for International students.
Quick question, for those who have already sent in their ED application, have you received an ApplicantID yet? I originally got an email from Cornell saying they received my application, with an ApplicantID login information attached, but now my account has been deleted. I received an email from the IT team saying I would be issued a new ID, but that was three weeks ago and still, have not received any information. I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this similar problem. Thanks!
