Yes covid messes up a lot. They put a pause on new capital projects. Balch was supposed to go under renovation this year but now that’s on hold until next year. Freshmen have to live on campus with few exceptions. And yes it is still the goal that beginning with the entering class all freshman and sophomores will be required to live on campus, unless they live in a srat. The townhouses next year will also not be for freshman anymore thank god.
They did not have any extra single rooms due to covid intentionally due to the mental strain of covid but they did eliminate forced triples!
From a practical POV most freshmen have had to live on campus, but just because it’s tough to get off campus housing in May in Ithaca. Cornell didn’t require any special reason, all you had to do was not fill out the housing request.
Most students assume it is required, and while Cornell has never explicitly stated that it was required, I never saw anything online or in print that explicitly stated that it wasn’t either. They didn’t mention it because they didn’t encourage it. I don’t recommend off campus living for freshmen anywhere generally, unless there is some unusual circumstance that makes it more practical.
Having said that I know several current students and recent grads from Cornell that never lived in student housing, they started off campus as freshmen. None had a medical waiver or anything like that, it was just cheaper and more practical in their circumstances to live off campus. This is not true for 99%+ of incoming freshmen.
Probably a moot point though, as this only applies to students who entered Cornell PRIOR to Fall 2021.
Thank you so much for the update. We don’t fit into any of the special categories which account for about 87% of students. So, chances of getting in are extremely low.
The potato is a root vegetable native to the Americas, a starchy tuber of the plant Solanum tuberosum, and the plant itself is a perennial in the nightshade family, Solanaceae.
No, we could never see our q1 grades. Reason being as they were not required as part of the application process. Same reason why you can’t see your sat/act scores if you submitted them or a 3rd letter of recommendation, resume, etc. Anything optional submitted, you can’t see or not absolutely required.
