Cornell ED Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

@gobigred2025 I chose the CAS because of the core curriculum requirements which will allow me to get a more liberal arts education instead of an engineering heavy course-load. While you can always take classes from any college, I thought being in the CAS would give me a broader range of classes.

I also want to try and double major in linguistics, but these are just my reasons. What are anyone else’s?

Did you have to request an interview or did they reach out to you first? I saw that this year no notes from the interviews would be used in the admissions process. Is there any advantage to doing one?

Applied ED Biology (Genetics, Genomics, Development) and Classics at CAS! Nervous… Can’t wait to hear back from Cornell. Anyone recommend doing the Interview? What’s the interview like?

@bunnypoop13 Same here. Applied to SHA.

Applied CS @ AS. I chose AS since the CS programs are the same but AS gives you more options for electives like social sciences.

Hey guys, I also got a Cornell interview request a few days ago but I thought it was weird because my mom usually does interviews bc she’s an alum and she thought they weren’t doing anything this year. None of my friends applying ed got a request though so I thought it was weird. I also did not request one bc I hate interviews so I wonder why they want to do one with me. Any thoughts?

@bagelfan26

Maybe it just depends on your major and depending where you live? My son requested one on the portal but there are not a lot of alumni where we live and so far he hasn’t heard anything either way. No harm in doing one in his case as the form explicitly states that nothing will be turned in by the interviewer or go in his file. I thought I have heard from alumni that there are some doing interviews this year?

Where do you live and what did you apply for? Maybe there are going to be certain students that do or don’t get interviews? Also, I thought if you have a child applying during that admission cycle, you’re not supposed to do interviews that year, so maybe that’s the issue with your mom this year?

Yeah my mom has been doing interviews for years but she skips them the years she had kids applying because it is an obvious conflict of interest. So even if they were doing interviews this year which I thought they weren’t she wouldn’t be doing them this year and she didn’t for co 2023 when my sibling applied. At the beginning of the school year, she had told me that she thought they just weren’t doing interviews at all because of covid. I applied to ILR and I am from New York. Lots of alumni in my area. I think my “interview” is on Wednesday

She could have read the email wrong though but I was just under the impression that no interviews were happening so I was confused when I got the email to meet with an alum in my area.

My son applied ED to SHA as well. Good luck to you!

So it turns out that my son did get an email from an alumni. He just hadn’t read checked that account yet. He responded late last night and he talked to the alumni this afternoon.

It was cool because it was someone who was in COE also, whereas when my daughter applied she did not get someone who had been in COE.

They’re so chill and like they say just for informational purposes, not even for anything as far as admittance, especially this year since they’re not turning in anything regarding the you as an applicant.

We live in the Midwest so definitely not the number of alumni as there are by you. I was definitely surprised this go around when there was a box for him to click to say he wanted to talk to someone versus when my daughter applied and was contacted without her checking anything so maybe if you’re in NY because there are so many that’s how they’re doing it this year?

I do wonder if Cornell is having the same experience as so many other schools in that in state applications are way up, but OOS are decreased since people want to stay closer to home? Not that I want to be running to Ithaca, but I’d rather be going there than yet another school!

Good luck to your son!

Same here! I got an interview even though I didn’t request one. Personally, I really enjoyed it it went super chill. She asked me to talk about myself for a bit and then I asked her some questions I had about Cornell. So, it’s super chill and I wouldn’t stress too much about it

I did ED to ILR. Anyone in similar situation? My UW GPA: 3.80, ACT: 36. My essay was meh. I don’t know? I’m scared. When do decision come out? Also, if anyone wants to chance me, that’d be great!

I also ED ilr, similar gpa but slightly higher, no tests scores bc covid. Thought my essays were fine: had a counselor help me and her company is pretty good at getting people in but I personally did not love my essays. All my friends think the 12th at 7pm EST but that would be a Saturday which would be odd.

but then yet again do they need more time since they pushed the deadline back? Maybe they would just defer more people like they did at UGA. I heard it would be the 12th on college admissions website but cc won’t let me add the link. it was called ivy wise

The 12th at 7pm was last year!! People need to read those posts and see the dates on them. That is not this year!

How long was it?

Yeah I realized that because I remember that day so vividly when people from my school got into Cornell on that Thursday nightbut the blog post I am referring to claims to be for co 2025. But then again why would it be on a saturday? Idk it doesn’t seem like a sketchy website and they got other dates correct but idk I think they might tell us when next week.

I got this info from ivy wise if you google like Class of 2025 Early Decision Notification Dates it should come up. Idk why they think it’s the 12th but i mean that’s what theyre claiming
