Yeah the schools in the Westchester area (if that’s where you’re from) are somewhat of a disadvantage in the AP arena because my kids have found it puts those students a little behind in terms of being able to take extra classes or double majoring, etc.
Our school doesn’t rank because of the competitiveness nature of it but everyone has a weighted and unweighted GPA and one can take regular classes or Honors/AP for higher GPA. The schools are aware of how the high schools systems are based on their school report and since you’re from NYC they definitely know that! It’s just interesting to hear that. I know a school nearby that you can actually have above a 5.0 because they give A+'s but ours you cannot get above an A in a course so even though our weighted GPA is out of a 5, no one can actually have a 5 because there are a certain number of courses that no one can take at the honors level so they can’t earn more than a 4.0 in those classes no matter what. Colleges are given the GPA range for w/UW and the top 10%, 25% and median.
Yeah Im from the westchester area. Lots of alum in the area so Cornell def knows the rigor at my school. We have a good amount of people get into ed and rd. People have above 4.0 but from what I’ve seen and heard, it’s rare. But I do wonder how we will fair in college because we don’t have ap. From what i’ve heard my school does a good job preparing us as it’s a notoriously hard but it’s still something I think about. How was ur son’s interview?
BU, Columbia, Yale and Hamilton are all December 15. So they’ve set their dates. All I’ve found is that Harvard, Cornell, Duke and Dartmouth say “this month” but no date yet. I vaguely recall for my daughter who’s ED date was a Monday, that she received an email I think on the Thursday prior. It was at least that far in advance, but I do remember it being a guessing game. I guess people can go look at the last few years ED threads and see how far in advance they announce the date.
where did you see the alumni interviews aren’t submitting notes? You cannot request an interview at Cornell, they reach out to a random 60% of applicants if they have an available alumni in the area. I had an interview last week and was told he was writing a report. Why would he have to write a report if they don’t review them?
The alumni my son had his “interview” with said he can reach out with questions up until Dec 8 and then after that not again until acceptances go out. So that pretty much confirms no decisions until at least after December 8th.
