Cornell ED Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

Will Cornell share the admittance information with counselors or interviewers before the decisions are out? I met a Cornell alumni this summer. She said her interviewer knew the information two or three days before the official announcement. But that was five years ago. I don’t know now.

I don’t know about ILR, but not all colleges in Cornell require mid term grades. Most do not actually, except for RD.

I actually finished 11/12 schools by October and then I submitted my last one on Thanksgiving so I am all done.

My friend interviews and she told me they are told if the candidates they speak to are accepted, deferred or denied approximately 2 days after, unless of course the applicant informs them first.

same! I can’t find anything but I know two people who got in AAP Arts and they told me the class size is 30 people… how many people would get in through ED then? Also did anyone else have an interview? I had mine in September.

No idea about any of that but the AAP program there is supposed to be amazing!

I had mine in October. The interviewer never replied to my email afterward. It’s scaring me, but I think I did OK during the interview and my interviewer seems really interested in me as well. Did your interviewer replied to you after the interview?

Chance me at ILR (ED) pleaseee
UW GPA: 3.8
W GPA: 4.3
SAT: 1490
Good ECs

hi omg the same thing happened to be. I emailed him again and he replied but I sent another email again and then he didn’t

ahhh I’m really panicking. My interviewer said she would love to hear more about my activities and told me to send her more information but never replied to my emails. Would you like to talk more on Instagram? I feel like it would be faster that way haha, my account is: melaniewmw

Well, interviewers always encourage students. They don’t play a significant role in the decision making. Interviewers being active or positive only reflect what kind of people they are.

phew, thank you for telling me that! I always thought interviewers’ report, especially for AAP, would have a great influence on us.

I don’t know when you emailed your person but beyond Dec 8, they are not allowed to have contact with applicants.

I emailed her right after we had our interview, which is early October.

That’s a bummer then that she didn’t respond. Obviousy people are busy and what not, but to tell you to email with questions and then to blow you off is rude.

Yeah it really is. :pensive: I got so scared when she didn’t reply and thought I did something wrong. Thank you for telling me that!

I emailed Cornell in the beginning of October and an AO told me Mid-Year was only required for admitted ED applicants. I have heard of times where they ask for first quarter, so that might’ve been the case for me.

Interviews are only informational this year and they’re not turning in any sort of report. In past years they did, but even then it didn’t county for anything. AAP applicants submit portfolios, correct? I think that is probably way more important in the process for you than anything so don’t worry about the alumni. My friend told me going forward even beyond this year they will no longer turn in anything about the candidate other than if they met with them or not. They are trying to do a better job to reach all candidates because they were only meeting with about 50-60% but don’t have enough alumni volunteers to meet with everyone. Maybe not having to write a report will now encourage more to do it.

I know for my daughter the person she met with she only communicated with once after she was accepted and then the person wasn’t at the admitted student event in the spring or the Cornell picnic in the summer. I hope they still do something this year for students even if remote.

My son however met (remotely) this year with someone much higher in our local alumni group. I don’t know if that’s because there are so few candidates in the Midwest, if so few requested interviews, or if it was random. This time also my child got someone in engineering vs someone in ILR who couldn’t answer any Engineering questions, so it was a better match. Hopefully that’s something else they are trying to do better with.

Yes, we do submit our portfolios, and they are indeed really important. I feel much easier after reading your words haha. I live in China so not a lot of alumni interviewers were available in my time zone, and I had an online interview with a lady that just graduated from AAP Art in recent years.
Good luck with your son’s application! Four days left till the big day.

I think the only thing stopping a great international getting in right now is that there are so many international candidates and not enough spots.

Last year they accepted 1576 students in ED and 13.6% were international. The whole class of 2024 class has less than 10% international so clearly ED is the best chance. I also think applying to a less popular major for internationals (ie not Engineering) may help you, but at the same time, you’re also applying to one of the most competitive majors, however, it is very subjective as well and having to prove yourself with your actual work/portfolio being part of the process is probably a good thing. It’s not based just on a test score or a GPA. But again it’s subjective so if the person looking at your work doesn’t like it, then like reading your essay and not liking it, that’s another story. It will definitely be a long 4 days.
