Which school should I apply ED? I love both of them and I would like to know my chances at both. The one I don't apply ED I will apply RD.
I only know that I want to go in the science direction, preferably Biology.
Academics:
GPA UW: 3.92
I'll refrain from posting my weighted GPA as it isn't quite as high as I would have liked. Our school has a 2 AP a year policy and even then only from junior year. We have no honors or pre-ap classes. Got special permission to take 3 during senior year.
Course rigor is probably as hard as it gets for our school.
Class Rank: School doesn't rank

Info:
International. Asian. Male.
Stereotypical I know.
Financial aid is not needed.
Hooks: I can drink a gallon of milk in ten seconds flat. Yes, like Joey.

Note: As an international my extracurricular opportunities are limited to say the best. Not an excuse at all, just a statement.

Thanks for chancing, appreciate it very much.

It is very difficult for an international applicant. And, being an Asian male makes it worse.
But, if I were you, I wont do ED.

I don’t think you are an academic superstar but your academic credentials are excellent and you do not need FA.
If I were you, I will apply to 20+ selective colleges to increase my chances at top colleges.
Also, Chicago, Cal Tech, Georgetown and MIT have EA (no restrictions).

Between Duke ED and Cornell ED: I say Duke ED.

You can’t EA Georgetown and ED at another school.

Both schools like EDs. You should look at your secondary school admittance rate to Cornell and Duke, see which college your school has better relationship with. As an example, Cornell has not admitted any student from my kid’s international school in the last 5 years, but UPenn consistently admits a handful each year. I think the reason is because one year when Cornell admitted 4, no one matriculated due to Cornell’s location.

You have very competitive stats for both schools. You should ED at one of them if you are certain they are your top choices.

Thank you for the advice, the problem is we’ve had so few people get into either that I can’t make sure. We’ve had one person go to Duke, which was this year, and one person get into Cornell ED, which was last year. The person going to Duke got in with a Robertson Scholarship but the person was really extraordinary. Given we have so few people at both, how can I decide?

Since when weren’t you allowed to EA Georgetown and ED somewhere else? I’ve never heard of this.

Apply to where you love. That’s why you go ED in the end. You love that school so much that you’ll commit everything to them. Forget where people suggest based on your stats. Apply to where you would be the most excited if you get that big, fat envelope in the mail.

you are right on track with many of the same applicants that have such stellar grades, ecs, and sat scores. the only thing you can do now is just write our essay that describes your personality to the administrators. they dont want another nerdy asian but an interesting person that will light up their campus. best of luck though!

Thanks for the chances guys
Personally I like Duke slightly better but Cornell is a very close second. I mean really close.
Problem is my parents prefer Cornell and I would love it there too. Bluntly, I would just like to see where my chances are better.

@ing135 LOL Love how you assume I’m studying in China cause I’m Asian. No I study in an Asian nation that borders China.

apply ED to Duke and EA to Chicago. I live about 15 min from Duke, and I see people with 2100 SATs and crappy ECs get in ED. We’ve even had someone who got a 1160/1600 on his SAT get in. You’ll be fine. If you want ivy, apply Cornell ED, but you could also probably get into Dartmouth or Penn ED. You’ve got a great shot!

Thank you for the chances guys I will chance back.
AP scores are in. I was a little wuss and couldn’t wait the two weeks and ended up calling.
5s on AP Bio, AP Calc BC, and AP Physics B
Do the scores make a difference in admissions?

I don’t think scores make a difference in admissions, but I think they help to validate your grades. For example, if you get B’s in AP Bio, but a 5 on the AP tests, adcoms will know that your AP Bio test was relatively hard. On the other hand, if you have straight 100’s in AP Chem, but a 2 on the AP test, that class seems to be wayy too easy. They use AP scores to compare the rigor of classes among different schools, but your AP scores will not make or break your application.

The only thing I know about Duke´s admission is they do favor NC residents. I think (if I remember correctly) they admit 15% NC residents, which then make it more difficult for non-residents for getting into Duke.

I don´t know how old this data is, but it doesn´t appear as Cornell and Duke´s ED rates are that different. The only difference is the NC resident factor.
