Cornell ED or RD? For Engineering and CAS

Hi CC! I am an upcoming senior I was trying to decide wether to apply Cornell ED or RD for both the college of engineering and CAS, when you read my stats you will see it's obviously a high (HIGH) reach which I realize, i am just trying to figure out what I can do to make it less of a reach. Be honest but not rude lol.
[ *] Weaknesses: Act,Gpa both mediocre
[ *] Your "Cornell" factor - the most unique thing in your application: I'm funny/lively, I turned failure into progressing succes, desire to succeed
Overall I really am just wanting advise on if I should apply ED with (hopefully) 29/30 act,3.5/3.7 Gpa, 720 SAT 2s for CAS or Engineering or Premed or wait until RD and get test scores into 30s/750s , Gpa 3.7/3.8.5 and apply? Will ED give me a better shot or no with low scores and Gpa . Thanks in advance guys!

I also played piano since I was 5 and guitar for 2 years, but don’t really see that as important

Your scores and GPA are way too low for Cornell…

Appreciate the honesty!

If you really want to go to Cornell, certainly apply early. Applying RD will kill your chances. Work really hard on the ACT retake.

WhartonnotHYPS, thank you, appreciated! Would a 30 ED make it an unlikely reach instead of impossible?

Shoot for 32 on ACT.

If not, why not try SAT? SAT is just a game of how hard you work; the more practice you do, the better your score becomes. One summer of hard work can seriously change your life!
(Bar on SAT would be approx 2200).

I might as well pay 50$ more and give it a shot with my subject tests! I’ll be putting in massive study time this semester, thanks! Wish me luck

Really work on pulling up your ACT score, which it sounds like is your goal. Applying RD won’t necessarily “kill” your chances. While it is certainly true that the acceptance rate is higher for ED, if applying RD gives you the time you need to pull up your test scores, I would say do that. If you’re taking the ACT again in September, you should get the results in time to decide whether or not to apply ED. If your score is still low, I’d suggest taking the SAT and waiting to apply RD.

As far as which college to apply to, it just depends what exactly you plan on doing. You mentioned premed. If you do that, it isn’t its own separate college. You go to whichever college you want and then follow the premed track.

You’re going for engineering right? Although medical club is cool, it doesn’t reflect your interest in engineering. For Cornell, ed or rd, you need a 33 act or 2250 sat score. In terms of ECs, try doing things that involves engineering. Also, you should take sat 2’physics.
Good luck!
Chance me back-http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

With a 3.5 UW, wait til regular decision and pull your GPA up. I mean, take classes online, community college, whatever, in addition to your classes at HS. Also make sure your ACT gets up to a 33. Good luck, chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich-stern.html#latest</a></p>

Thanks guys!, going to see about the CC/online courses and hold off until I see my September scores, I will chance back!

But Yes engineering with premed concentration! will it still affect my app at this point if I join engineering clubs at my school senior year ?(they just started my junior year and I was unaware)

@Dream0n

IMO not really unless you do something noteworthy. It’s worth a try though.

Like go to state or regionals with the team or build something significant ?
