Vanderbilt and Cornell are at the top of my schools that I want to attend. Since my GPA and test scores are below average I would like to apply ED to one of these schools(I need all the help I can get). I would like to apply to the school that I would have a higher chance of getting into. So, what school should I apply to?
Thank You!
I would be applying to ILR at Cornell and Arts and Sciences at Vanderbilt
GPA: 3.74(unweighted)
SAT: 1950
All of my classes are IB(7)
FBLA(president)(Also placed at states and competed at nationals)
Math Team
Masterminds
Student Senate
A community service club
Peer Tutor
National Honor Society
I have also completed an internship at my city’s District Attorney’s office
Additionaly, I have a brother who is a sophomore at Cornell
ED isn’t worth it if you are below the 25th percentile most of the time, unless you are hooked.
Apply ED to the school you prefer. Both are reaches.
ED is a personal choice, based off of where you would love to attend no matter what, if all financial aspects work out.
Your grades are in the ballpark, but you need to raise your test scores. Both schools would be reaches even with ED. Have you tried the ACT?
Both of these schools would be difficult to get into with your scores ED
I know that both of these schools are reaches, that is why I would like to apply ED to one of them to help improve my chances slightly.
@SLG1125 They won’t improve your chances significantly, the purpose of EDing is to help get you accepted. EDing isn’t going to increase your chances enough where you could reasonably hope the odds to be in your favor. I think you should look somewhere else that is a reach, but where an ED will actually help and get you accepted, which does not appear to be the case here.
ED is an opportunity that I don’t think you should waste. If you’re dead-set on applying ED to one of these two, you would likely have the better shot at Cornell. However, in your position I would look for some schools in the 25% acceptance rate to 35% acceptance rate where your stats would be more in the mid 50 percent.
(That should read 25% acceptance rate to 35 % acceptance rate RANGE- oops)
I would look at ED at Wake Forest. They are test optional and since your grades are solid and if you spend time on the essays I think you would be competitive.
