I just got my net id and noticed my cornell email is that@cornell.edu. Is it possible to make a cornell email with my full name in it, instead of 3 letters and 2 numbers?

No, everyone’s (even professors’) email address is netID@cornell.edu.

can you add an alias email address so that even though people emailed johndoe@cornell.edu it shows up in jd25@cornell.edu?

I have never seen a student have anything besides a netid@cornell.edu style email address. I have seen profs and postdocs who have personalized email addresses, although even in that crowd it’s quite rare. given that there’s no information about it readily available online, I would guess it’s not possible to get one as a student. if you want to be sure you should contact CIT and I’m sure they will clarify one way or the other, since it’s a pretty straightforward question.

it would probably be more hassle than it’s worth, really, given that everyone in every context is going to expect that your email is netid@cornell.edu. when you send the email, your first and last name will appear in the display name, so it will be very clear to anyone who you are.
