What does everyone think of my chances when math has been my worst subject in high school? I'm want to go into Computer Science, which isn't nearly as math-centric as many other COE majors. I've also had all A's in science classes (honors and AP classes), so maybe this will help? Here are my math grades/SAT scores:

9th:
Advanced Geometry: B, C

10th:
Advanced Algebra 2: B, A

11th:
Honors Pre-Calculus: A, B

12th: taking College Calculus, which many people get A's in at my school because it's not a very rigorous class. I think I'll likely get an A.

SAT 1: 2250 (M- 710, CR- 750, W- 790)

SAT 2 Math 2: 800
SAT 2 Biology M: 730

I've also got legacy, and I'll be applying ED.

Thanks!

actually, CS is a highly math-centric major, you just aren't very familiar with what it really entails.

Thanks for that helpful response.

Hate to burst your bubble, but CS is not just programming all day. Much more theoretical math than you think. Read up on its course descriptions...

I'm aware that there's math involved, and I'm not disappointed about that. But I hope and would think that admissions officers consider CS to be less grounded in the type of math applicants learn in high school, and therefore evaluate high school math grades more leniently. I would guess a CS student doesn't use much geometry (9th grade math) or trig (11th grade math) in their CS classes, and it's not like high school algebra (10th grade math) curriculum includes anything on boolean algebra (at least mine didn't). There is also a CS major at in the CAS, which seems to support my point of view. UChicago, to pick a random example, doesn't have an engineering school as far as I know but still offers computer science. What could be the difference between CS and other engineering majors that sets CS apart if it's not a lesser focus on most types math?

i think youll get in. i never had a c in math, but my grades and sat's were similar to yours. i was legacy too, and got in.

Thanks! Anybody else?
