I have an idea for the engineering supplement essay and I just wanted some opinions. The topic is: Tell us about an engineering idea you have, or about your interest in engineering. Describe how your ideas and interests may be realized by - and linked to - specific resources within the College of Engineering. Finally, explain what a Cornell Engineering education will enable you to accomplish.
My idea is Legos. Now before you shoot down my idea, because I know it's cliche and predictable and lame, here me out. The reason why I want to write about this is because it really is like the legit way I got interested in engineering. I was thinking about putting a twist on it though, to make it a little more personal and unique, by adding my passion for drawing to it. I want to add this for the creativity aspect of the essay and I also read a lot specifically about Cornell's engineering program to relate everything to specific things in their program like they asked in the prompt.
So, any opinions or new things that you think I should add would be greatly appreciated because I really want my essays to be good because my test scores, while they aren't bad at all, they aren't necessarily the best. I just want to excel in other parts of the application to make up for the test scores.

Hello, I am in the same boat as you ;). Anyways, that all sounds very good, but I am not sure what “specific resources within the College of Engineering” you can link that to

I can’t put so much detail because then it would be like I’m putting my whole essay on here, so I sort of have to be vague. But, basically, I looked on their website and saw different things like there co-op program and I also saw in depth descriptions of there goals and objectives for engineering. So, that is what I was talking about, in case it wasn’t clear, that I really explored there engineering program specifically so I can reference to things that are specific to Cornell Engineering instead of just the school in general or just talking about me and not relating myself to the school’s engineering program like the prompt asks.

Looking into it, I am pretty confused as to what they mean by “specific resources.” Are they looking for programs, departments, and research options? Or professors and classes?
I also feel as if every engineering applicant is going to throw the Co-Op program in their essay somehow

Oh, interesting. The topic changed a bit from last year’s.

I think your idea sounds promising, and it seems you’ve been doing some research. I hope you can execute it successfully. (:
