<p>Yes I'd agree with norcalguy here even though I'm pretty much a Cornell fanatic myself. The OP specifically wanted to know the academic quality of the two institutions so...</p>

<p>It's pretty close...MIT might lead in engineering, but Cornell leads in the sciences. In business etc. it's a wash, but cornell has more top 10 programs overall (architecture, hotel business, agriculture etc.)</p>
<p>Also, if you're a female, Cornell is tougher to get into than MIT, so a gender bias is there also.</p>
<p>Cornell probably has the best engineering program in the Ivy League. As far as MIT Vs. Cornell in engineering, MIT has an edge, but both are good.</p>

Do you have any data to support that? That isn't the impression I've gotten, and that's not what the rankings say (even in condensed matter.)</p>
