Cornell Engineering

I've done searches and have already tried to read through all the posts concerning Cornell Engineering vs. Columbia SEAS. But I'm still not all the sure. I'm hoping that some people can give me a better idea of how the courses available are, the size of the classes, how you liked your professor, and, if possible, the feel of a regular day. Thanks. Another problem I have is I can't really decide between engineering, pre-med, and econ so how flexible do you think it would be to switch between schools? Finally, are there any chances to sit in a class or stay for a night before actually being admitted?

Ya that last inquiry I am wondering about also…I cannot decide between science, engineering, and business, but right now I settled for engineering.

You can do engineering and pre-med…they are not mutually exclusive. It isn’t hard to switch between schools as long as you keep up a good gpa. There is also a business minor available just for engineers. Just keep in mind, it is much harder to switch into engineering than out of it (this is true anywhere you go). I’ve enjoyed probably 90% of the classes/professors I’ve had. ALthough many are difficult at times, I’ve had a great experience at cornell so far. (I will be a senior in the fall). I’ve had classes ranging from super large (but super awesome) psych 101, to classes with 15 people in them. Generally, you get smaller class sizes as you get into more advanced classes. But Cornell arranges it such that your first semester math class will only have about 30 people in it.

Cornell and columbia are both great schools, but most would probably agree that Cornell is a little more well known in the engineering field. Another big difference is that Columbia has a core, which I’ve heard first hand kinda sucks for engineers, even though it is slightly modified. Cornell sort of has a core for engineers (all the math and science classes all engineers take), but I think it is less ridged. Finally, Cornell and Columbia are two completely different environments. Do you want to be in NYC or be in a bustling rural town. You should really visit both to see what you like better

Cornell vs. columbia engineering threads definitely exist. Try digging some more.

great post vivace13!

patrick you can also look into doing the engineering program in the CALS school which would allow you to minor in aem and still be pre-med!
