Cornell Fall 2017 Transfer

@Mastodon97 don’t forget about me applying to ILR

lol I have been MIA since school started again, my bad

Also can anyone explain to me where all of these checklists are on the Portal? I do not see anything checked off for my app although everything is submitted

@ballislife98 I got you. If you go to https://selfservice.admissions.cornell.edu/ , log in, and then click on “check application status” the checklist is there. If you don’t have anything checked off I’d definitely contact Ian, its normal for some of the stuff to be missing because they are still updating the database, but everything missing means that something is off.

@Mastodon97 No, I just messaged you. I am a happy Temple Owl.

I applied to transfer into the College of Arts and Sciences for fall!
Here are my stats:

Current Freshman, Applying as a Sophmore
Current University: Bentley University
Current GPA: 3.94
ACT: 31
High school GPA: 3.89 weighted

College ECs:
-Equity analyst in the Bentley Investment Group
-Professor’s assistant for an into law/ethics course
-Member of the USAU club ultimate frisbee team at Bentley
-Executive board for two arts related clubs

HS ECs
-Self-taught studio/performance rock guitarist
-FBLA state website design champion
-Accepted to and attended a satellite art school program to study website design and audio engineering in my junior/senior year while concurrently enrolled in regular school
-Boys and Girls Club student intern for two summers
-Heavily involved in a global non-profit during the year

Other:
-Have overcome a learning disability
-Taking two extra upperclassman classes spring semester for an extra challenge (Chaos theory/Fractal dynamics and a comp sci course)
-College grading system set up so that an A is above a 95% instead of a 90%.

Downsides:
-Midterm report will probably be around a 3.7 rather than my current 3.94 because of a B in a required accounting course
-ACT score isn’t impressive, nor is my high school GPA

If anyone has any insight as to how competitive I am, please let me know!

My HS transcript has also not been marked as received. I sent it January 4th.

For those who have everything marked as received - did you send a Final Secondary School Report form in with your high school transcript? I didn’t, because it’s not listed as a requirement anywhere, but I’m wondering if that may be why it’s not marking my HS transcript as received. Brown just contacted me Friday asking for it, despite also not listing it as a requirement.

Both my College Report and H.S. Transcript are not checked though sent mid-February. I imagine because they were mailed, then they just take longer to be recorded. The class of 2021 is their priority now.

Guys don’t worry, it’ll show up eventually. Some stuff for me still hasn’t been checked off either and I contacted ILR Admissions and they said not to worry it’ll just take more time.

Hi guys, I’m a Asian boy attending top ranking scholl in my nation. It would be really helpful if you guys could help me determine if I’m competitive enough for some of the schools I’m considering. Welcome all critics and suggestions
My school well-known for STEM-focused studies and I’m pretty dissatisfied with it and decided to transfer.

ACT: None (nor SAT) but have TOEFL school around 110
GPA: 3.67(I know that my gpa is not that competitive enough, but is it really bad? According to my research, I found average gpa of accpetance of all listed universities are not in big difference, also my strenghths are EC and essays)
School : top 15 Asian Universities / majoring economics
Highschool Gpa: 3.6~7 (top 7~8%) (Top public school in Korea)
Language skills : Including mother tongue language, I can fluently speak 3 languages and one in basic level…

I’ve not requested financial aids.

Main Extracurriculars: Air force Military(for 2 years, played an essential role in collaboration with US army)/ One of multinational company(maybe well known in Europe, contributed to sales increase and company reputation)/ Bank internship (one of top banking in my country), Internship in Law-firm(also multinational company, played as an economic analyst)/ Captain of Soccer club(won in regional soccer competition)/ Mentoring clubs(head director&leader, mentored people in need)/ Mentoring volunteer(about economic issues)/ Member of NGO (aiming to reinforce relationships with Asian Countries, actually held many businesses and quiet infleuntial)

Recommendation : 2 very strong recommendation (from economic and speech professors, in both classes I got A+)
(*some people argue that it would be better to get recommendations more in numbers, is it really true?/ since I though 2 would be enough)

Essay : 9/10 (I explained a definite reason to transfer related to my major and future dream and I showed enthusiasm to be member of the society)

(A few weeks ago I already received matriculation from University of Michigan, ann arbor/ but I wonder if there are any chance for me to get accepted from those listed universities)

Plz chance me. Also comment me if you have similar stats. Advices from those who are previously accepted would be delightful.

Thank you

@anonymousg welcome! Which school at Cornell did you apply to?

I applied to CAS!

Can anyone post a screen shot of their application material checklist on their portals for ILR. My checklist won’t even show because they said they didnt receive my app fee waiver, when in fact i have sent it. I just wanna make sure i sent everything.

Please chance me!

Current international Freshman, applying for CAS’ Asian Studies program
No financial aid needed
Current University: Grinnell College
Current GPA: 3.9 (Straight A mid-term report)
ACT: 32
High school GPA: 3.9 Unweighted (Studied in an American HS in Conn)

College EC’s:

  • Started an East Asian Studies club at a school without EAS major
  • Student government member
  • Founder of a subtitle group with 300k followers on Chinese websites
  • Writing for an organization that promotes liberal arts education in China
  • Currently doing a Vlog series promoting Asian culture

Other:

  • Transfer excuse is legit; Grinnell does not have EAS/ Asian Studies major
  • Taking as many Asia-related courses as I can
  • Recs and essays should also be good; 2 recs written by Asia-related courses’ professors

Are most of us stuck in checklist limbo lol?

@Mastodon97 Yes!

@Mastodon97 Yes I’m just waiting for them to update the college report. I have everything else. I think that after freshman decisions are released, things will start picking up for transfer applicants. Hopefully!

So, my midterm GPA turned out to be a bit lower than last semester (3.9 to a 3.5) but my school likes to weigh courses at the end of the semester instead of as it goes on. Should I hold off on sending them my midterm grades until the last day possible (April 15th) and hope they send out an acceptance? I’m applying to the COE and am worried about my B in Physics, which is stupid because last semester the class got curved by 8 points at the end of the semester.

I think my stats are pretty good regardless-but I’d love to hear some thoughts.

-3.92 GPA
-Ranked 35/1054 at a competitive liberal arts college
-Taking 19 credits a semester right now
-Doing undergraduate research as a freshman
-Eagle Scout
-Political involvement (presidential campaign and college club)
-Coding experience in HTML CSS Java
-Excel and LabVIEW experience
-Excellent professor recommendation
-My SAT in CR is 740, about the 75th percentile, and my SAT in math is 720, around the 50th.

My high school grades weren’t as good, with a 3.6 GPA, but they’re not as important anymore and it’s from a tough HS where everyone is college bound and competitive. I had my high school guidance counselor attach his recommendation because it was an option for transfer students and he updated it a little bit. He said that it was really good.

As for my essay, I think that the “why transfer” essay should be good, since my reasons for transferring are pretty tangible and academic only, mostly focusing on me wanting to attend a 4 year program instead of my 3-2, and how I want to do more advanced research.

The “why engineering/Cornell” essay focused on specific things about Cornell that aren’t available at my current school, like the large course catalog, more technical research, agriculture (I really want to take a class or two in it), and the nature surrounding the school. I used specific things like the Gorge Stewards, LISC, and one course a friend at Cornell recommended (mushrooms!) to show that I did my research and that Cornell was an automatic yes if I was admitted.

New message on the portal:

Fall transfer applicants: Please note that transfer admission decisions are communicated on a rolling basis beginning in mid-April. Applicants will receive an email when decisions can be viewed.

I am still missing high school transcript

@ILR2020 Same :confused:

Can anyone advise me on how to pay the Cornell application fee after already submitting the common app? It appears they don’t have payment yet so I cannot see my checklist or anything similar in the portal
