My essay focuses mainly on the lack of research and other academic opportunities for freshman and/or other undergraduate students, with a small amount of it being about general discomfort at this school. It also touches how students on campus lack any motivation for group assignments in labs, and I end up doing most, if not all the work.

I understand that right off the bat i’ll have a 12 or so percent chance of admission, but I’m worried that my high school GPA and ACT will ruin any admission chance I have. I have not applied yet, but I want to get someone sane to review my numbers before i do apply.

Completely forgot this, but I’m also considering a Major change. Not sure to what just yet ut I’m thinking Physics or possibly the opposite direction to something to do with Law.

Erm, overall maybe not so good. Your current GPA shows improvement from high school, so high school grades might not matter as much. However, considering a change in major after appearing to be so on-track to go into CS might not be very attractive to admissions. Maybe that will look better if you take courses and do activities next semester that focuses on expanding your interests outside of CS.
Additionally, your essay seems a little strange. Cornell wants you to show how much you LIKE Cornell, not how much you DISLIKE your current school. Take it from me, there’s plenty of room for discomfort here and you’ll definitely find your fair share of unmotivated people.

@AL Yeah, I’m branching out next semester. I have 2 lab sciences over the required 1, and I have a history and an exploratory career based class even though neither are required. In terms of my essay, the prompt is “Tell us what you’d like to major in at Cornell, and why or how your past academic or work experience influenced your decision, and how transferring to Cornell would further your academic interests.” I was under the impression saying I’m not very comfortable on this campus and that it doesn’t provide many research opportunities for freshmen, along with saying i’d like peers with motivation for group work and other lab assignments, would be a good thing. I was told before that showing academic reasons for transfer is stronger than saying how much you like the school, regardless of whether or not there are unmotivated people.

Theres still time for improvement. Improving my GPA will be hard, especially with the extra courses I’ve taken. But if theres a shot I could transfer into Cornell, I’m taking it
