Cornell is basically my dream school, and I feel like I could be on my way into being able to get in. Regardless of getting in or not, what is the financial aid like for upper middle class families? I would say my family is barely upper middle class, but we live comfortably; regardless, we can’t afford Cornell full-price. I know for families with incomes <60K it’s supposed to be expense-free, but my family’s income is slightly more than double that. What could I get in aid? It’s not like my parents could afford to pay full price, and I’m not going to borrow all that money.
run the Net Price Calculator on the website. Have your parents help since they know their investments, savings, and retirement contributions which all affect aid.
^ This. No better way to figure it out.
Your family will be expected to contribute and your package will include loans.
At $120k income and assuming assets of $100k I would not expect much if anything.
Depends how many other people in your family, are you in state in New York? Then consider one of the land grant schools which are cheaper for New York residents.
And please get “dream school” out of your mentality…it’s heartbreaking for most to think along those angles. Focus instead on different paths to get to your goal.
^I like this. I think I’ll use it.
Run the NPC. A friend with a six figure family income was pleasantly surprised with her kid’s package this year (she hadn’t run the NPC so had no idea what to expect).
Run the NPC, but IMO the financial aid is not as generous for middle upper income as many make it out to be.
