Cornell FINANCIAL AID

Is there still time to apply for financial aid? I heard that there was a deadline on November 1st for applying for financial aid...

how do you apply for financial aid? dont you just submit css?

Did you apply ED? If so, the deadline has passed.

We submitted my D’s CSS profile and mailed copies of last years taxes to the financial aid dept. when she applied (Nov. 1st). I think that is all that is required. They will give you a number based on those (CSS & 2013 taxes), if I am not mistaken.

^Yes, we did the same as @lkgrg17. You still have to fill out FAFSA, and submit 2014 taxes, and if those numbers differ significantly (up or down) from what you submitted already, your aid will be adjusted accordingly.

Is Fafsa filled out early January or after one has their taxes done (which for me is usually early to mid Feb)?

For the FAFSA specifically, you can fill it out with estimates in January and then go back in February and make corrections to input the accurate tax information using the IRS Data Retrieval tool. All states have different deadlines for state grants, so I always encourage people to just complete it in early January and go back to make the corrections after the taxes are completed.

so is it too late???

I’m not an expert, but I think if you are applying ED, then yes it may be too late since the deadline was 11/1 to submit last year’s tax data and CSS profile. This is so that if admitted, ED applicants will get their aid award at or around the ED decision date in mid-December. You should look at the FA section on Cornell website for more info or call the FA office to get solid answers. You still have to fill out a FAFSA for calendar year 2014 which will increase or decrease your EFC based on the current tax year’s info you input.

It says: “If admitted to Cornell, we will provide you with an estimate of your financial aid based on the information you provided on the CSS Profile and your federal income tax returns. You will be expected to file your FAFSA and submit complete 2014 federal income tax returns to IDOC by February 15, 2015. We will review this information and begin issuing decisions on actual 2015-16 financial aid awards in March 2015.”
