Does anyone know what are the prospects for financial aid for international students in Cornell? I have seen that eligible Indians can vie for TATA scholarships, but I am not an Indian. What is are the opportunities for other foreign nationals?

Cornell offers aid to international students but it does not promise to meet need. So you could get in and get no aid.

Do you know how many students typically get aid?

There were 196 internationals at Cornell who received financial aid in the year 2013-14 (about 49 students in each class). The average aid awarded was an impressive $51.5k. Typically, I’ve observed that schools have a 50-70% yield for international students who are admitted with money, so Cornell probably offered aid to about 100 applicants (I’m sure HYPSM have higher yields.) This is just plausible speculation, though. You could ask the financial aid office? UChicago, for instance, offered $2m in aid to international students last year, which is the kind of information you don’t get without asking for it.

Cornell definitely has money for internationals, but it has a different approach to distributing that money than, say, Brown. At Brown, you don’t get in if they can’t afford to accept you; at Cornell, they could accept you and not give you any aid, which is a very stupid policy (but Cornell does have way more applicants, so this policy could be more efficient for them.)

Thank you very much @International95. The information that you provided is very helpful.
