Cornell greek scene

I'm not really into partying and probably won't go greek...would I have a hard time finding people to hang out with or stuff to do? (I'm a girl by the way if that matters)

Oh god no. While Cornell has a sizeable Greek system, it doesn't control the campus like other larger schools.

It's a very diverse school. Whatever your interests, you'll find a niche.

definitely not.

I'm only a freshmen, and just got here, but the times I feel like going out to a frat party, and dancing all night, I can find people who I can accompany.

When I feel like being lazy and staying in and chatting or playing cards or Mafia, I can find people to accompany.

When I feel like going to watch a movie, or go bowling, or take a walk through campus, or visit wegmans, or go to the farmer's market, I can find people to accompany.

The sheer number of students here means there will always be someone doing something you will find interesting.

I am a parent with a daughter in a sorority. In the fall, most of fraternity parties are open to everyone. After the rush in Spring, most of those parties will be closed (mixers between a fraternity and a sorority). For some people that like to go to parties on weekends that are not part of the Greek life will find themselves with not as much to do in Spring. I gather not as many upperclassmen go to fraternity parties because they party in a smaller group in Collegetown.

I am still not sure how I feel about her being in a sorority. It is not as crazy as I thought it was going to be. There are a few girls in the house that do not drink or have too much time for partying. I see a lot of time taken up by the sorority - meetings, volunteer work, mixers... The good thing is all the girls in her sorority (including all of her best friends) are the girls she would have hung out with even if they weren't in a sorority. There is just a lot of estrogen running around.

Is it true that in fraternity and sorority that the pledges really do these crazy things?

Watch:

ABC Family:Greek

no. havent you been told not to believe everything you see on tv? lol

at cornell, there is a strict anti-hazing policy. that sort of stuff usually only happens in big state schools or southern schools where greek life is everything

whether you are greek or not...you will find that at cornell you'll have to figure out what works best for you...

exposure + bewilderment = obvious
