I go to a private boarding school in the south. It's good and usually sends around 4 or 5 people to ivies each year.

Stats:
GPA: 3.78 (uw) 3.84 (w) <-- my school's weight is practically nothing.

SATI: 2160 (740m, 690cr, 730w)

SATII: About to take Chem, MathII, and Spanish.

COURSES: Practically hardest possible. I'm not taking AP Euro senior year, just regular history. Also, I'm not in the best science classes (a special group took honors chem in ninth grade, then AP chem, then AP Bio, then AP physics. I got recommended, but decided against it. Instead I take Honors Bio in ninth grade, honors chem, AP Chem, AP Physics.) Anyways, I'll have eight APs and eight Honors when I graduate.

ECs:
Outdoors Group--Youth Leader
Peer Support Network--Youth Counselor
Community Service--Vice President (Local Chapter)
Theater Organization--Herald (it's like treasurer)
School Newspaper--Editor
Learning Center Tutor
School's Spirit Club
Habitat for Humanity
International Organization trip to Rome (5 students were selected from about 30).
Volunteered over the summer at a hospital
Weekend Pottery
Political Club
Varsity Tennis (8th and 9th grade)
Student Council VP (hopefully next year)

Essays and Recs: I'm planning on working really hard on those essays. Also, I think my recs will be good.

SCHOOLS (in order of prefrence):
Princeton
Georgetown
Cornell
Columbia
Duke
Brown
UNC-Chapell Hill
Vanderbilt
UPenn
Tufts
UVA
Northwestern
WUSTL
U Chicago
Syracuse

Any chances...thanks.

Ummmm.....we are like twins--no joke. Wow, it's actually scary how similar we are (same stats, schools, ec's). Gah. Anyways...
I don't think you have much of a shot at Princeton, Columbia, Duke, or Brown.
I think you have an OK shot at Georgetown, UNC, UPenn, and U Chicago.
I think you have a good shot at Cornell, Vandy, Tufts, UVA, Northwestern, and WUStL.
I think you're in Syracuse.
Good luck, because our results are pretty much going to be the same--haha.

Princeton: 15-20%
Georgetown: 40%
Cornell: 60%
Columbia: 30%
Duke: 25%
Brown: 20%
UNC-Chapell Hill: 40%
Vanderbilt: 50%
UPenn: 20%
Tufts: 50%
UVA:35%
Northwestern: 70%
WUSTL:70%
U Chicago:30%
Syracuse:90%

Haha P.S. I know. You can't be exact. I'm just ramblin' with percentages.

Cornell's not that much easier to get into than Brown...

60% chance of getting into Cornell is way too high.. even ED...

60%? 70%? You're joking...

Princeton: Major Reach
Georgetown: Reach
Cornell: Reach
Columbia: Major Reach
Duke: Reach
Brown: Reach- Semimajor Reach
UNC-Chapell Hill: Match- semi match (out of state?)
Vanderbilt: Match
UPenn: Reach
Tufts: Match
UVA: Match
Northwestern: Reach
WUSTL: Semi match- Semi Reach
U Chicago: Reach
Syracuse: Safety- Easy Match

yeah those percentages are weird o_O

Hmmm...from what I've heard from the kids at my school, UVA, UNC, and Duke are tougher than Cornell or Brown. Our val. got waitlisted at Duke and into Columbia, and then a good student got into Columbia and Cornell and waitlisted at UVA, and THEN another good student got into CMU, Tufts, and waitlisted at UVA, UNC, and Duke. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't underestimate Duke's, UNC's, and UVA's difficulty.

UVA and UNC are state-biased schools, that's why your friends didn't get in.

Yeah I know, I'm just saying that the fact that they favor state students makes them just as difficult as some of the ivies, so don't underestimate their difficulty of admission.

If you're serious about Princeton, apply early. Show passion and consistency in your application. Best of luck to you!

UNC is not harder to get into than cornell...u are out of ur mind

Ummmm....I always believed it was out of state. UNC accepts ~16% oos and Cornell accepts ~24%!! Maybe it isn't, but I always thought it was...

At this point..
REACH-->Tougher than Reach

Princeton: REACH (However, if you choose to apply early: Reach)
Georgetown: Slight Reach
Cornell: Match
Columbia: Reach
Duke: Reach
Brown: Reach
UNC-Chapell Hill: Slight Reach (if OOS)
Vanderbilt: Match
UPenn: Reach
Tufts: Match
UVA: Slight Reach (if OOS)
Northwestern: Slight Reach
WUSTL: Slight Reach
U Chicago: Match
Syracuse: Safety

Good luck!

Yea, I've heard that UNC (compared to other state schools) really tries to have a large majority of students from N. Carolina.

Some schools like U of Delaware can't do that because... it's Delaware.

Yeah, UNC has a set amount that they can allow by law. They have to have 82% in-state students, meaning that leaves only 18% for the oos students, and UNC gets more oos apps!
