Dr_Mom:

For my first semester professors, I didn't mention transferring at all, so of course I did not mention cornell.

But for my second semester professors, it was inevitable, since they are the ones who have to personally sign the midterm report. After that, I've actually gotten more smiles from them and the grades on my papers have actually shot up dramatically. However, there was one particular class where I did not participate as much. It seemed that after he heard about Cornell, he became really frustated at me during class since I didn't participate much (just wasnt interested.)

Miami has required Freshman courses, like freshman english, math, and foreign languages. But I told them that this was the specific route that I wanted to take, and my wish was to make up these required freshman courses in my sophomore year. I never told my counselor that I was transferring. My counselor of course felt a bit strange, but signed my course registration sheet nevertheless. (Hey, its not like they can tell you what to do. It's your tuition right? hahaha).

I didn't have to fight much to get my required courses, except for my economic class, where the guy on the phone lied to me about it being full. After a dozen phone calls through the department, they finally admitted that the economics class WASN'T full after all, but the reason they lied to me was because they wanted me to take the required freshman courses, which I decided to skip.

As for my friends...I didn't tell them until the second semester. A lot of them said they were really sad to see me leave, and that I'm "a retard to be transferring out..." Another group of friends started to alienate me. And then another group of friends, who are transferring out themselves, have suddenly been much more closer. Funny, how certain people react to such news huh?

I'm sure your son/daughter will do great! good luck!
