Cornell Health Insurance

Hi Everyone, this is a question for current and past cornell students.

I was wondering how the cornell health insurance works. My mom wants me to take the insurance offered by Cornell, but is acceptance guaranteed. Furthermore, when does it start and what are the terms? When do we find out information about it? Are the costs of it higher if you are already on a long term medication? I have absolutely no idea and I want to know this because I will be starting on a 5 month med regime during which I have to switch insurance from my parent's private PPO family plan to the Cornell health insurance. Does anyone see any problems with this?

here is the link for the student insurance:[Student Insurance: Student Insurance](http://www.gannett.cornell.edu/insurance/)

the insurance only covers you for the school year (think late August to Early May).

The cost is 1716/year. [Student Insurance: SHIP Rates](http://www.gannett.cornell.edu/insurance/ship/rates.cfm)

I do not know the pharmacy benefits but I doubt the costs are higher (in terms of the premium) b/c there is only 1 plan option. however, the plan may not include enough pharmacy benefits, it may have higher copays, and/or it may not cover your meds. It’s just a flat rate for the year (1 major premium) and then then copays.

here is a link to the complete member guide: [Student Insurance: SHIP Member’s Guide](http://www.gannett.cornell.edu/insurance/ship/using/member_guide.cfm)

i have not read through it yet, but it should be similar to most insurance benefit plan guides. you can always email Gannett’s Student Health Insurance with specific questions: sicu@cornell.edu

the insurance covers you for 12 months…including summer after you finish your academic year…

i would talk to a consultant there for more info…

Are we certain that the insurance covers for the entire year?

@mariambaby3: yes, it’s in the guide: august 17 to august 17

this is last year’s guide so the info may change
