Cornell (Hotel) vs. BC (Carroll)

Hey, I was accepted to the Hotel School at Cornell and Carroll at BC. They both are the same distance from home and are around the same in cost. I have NO IDEA how to decide.... I like Cornell as a School... but I like Boston, MA as a College town. Any ideas?

Cornell Hotel School all the way! Cornell Hotel School offers a better career network than Carroll--which is essential in the hospitality industry.

Hotel, no question.

omg go hotel school. #1 in the world (this coming from a bio major who lives with 4 hotelies)

Definitely Cornell Hotel School ... i've only heard good things about this school!

Hotel is a hospitality school. Carroll is a business school. They're rather different in general focus.

Am I missing something?

i just noticed the same thing! one is tailored to business and the other one to hotels.

Look at the curriculum. The hotel school is a business school focused on the hospitality industry (there are many marketing, finance, accounting, real estate courses, etc).

right, but it is still a hotel school and you are still getting a hotel degree.

no, i would disagree with the above statement. I think the Hotel school is a business degree with a hotel focus. The hotel school makes students take all the intro business class +more +hotel classes.

Let me ask you this? Do you like cooking? Do you want to manage a restaurant for one of ur classes? If you answered no to any of these questions, don't come to the hotel school cause both those are 4 credits required courses.

i have a friend who is in hotel and only ended up in that program because when he applied, he thought it was easier to get into hotel than AEM, so he just applied early to that. he pretty much hates all the stuff appleapple is talking about which is causing him to have a terrible academic experience since he only wanted a pure business education.

while the hotel schools is definitely a business program specializing in hospitality...hospitality plays a HUGE role and if you aren't 100% comfortable with that, DO NOT go to hotel.

As an aside, Cornell Hotel is a much better opportunity than BC.

yea everyone is right. It is a business degree; however, it is more of a specialized business degree. If you want to go into hotel management, cooking, wedding planning, casino management, restaurant management, catering, real estate, food service etc, the hotel school is perfect for you...... see this post-graduate report for more information!

Outinspace,
As a former teacher at BC (was in grad school at time) and having a son now in the Hotel school, I think its a no brainer. The quality of undergrads at Cornell and the opportunities that program gives you far outweigh a decent Football team and the joys of living on Comm Ave. IF you want to learn, go to Cornell. If you want to party, BC is for you.

the OP should take into consideration that it is a hotel school with emphasis on hotel administration, though.

^agreed 10char

Thanks for posting guys! I absolutely agree with you, however, I feel that the Hotel school is mainly business school but with a hospitality twist. My interviewer was a Realtor and his friend was on the board of Goldman Sachs and they were both graduates of the Hotel school. I don't feel I would be limited by Cornell's curriculum at all. If only they would move Cornell to Boston, MA for me. Maybe if I ask really nicely?

As somebody who has lived in Boston, MA for two and a half years: its overrated. Beyond Harvard or MIT, I fail to see the appeal.

I chose Cornell over BC 4 years ago (in biology though). When I visited BC, I hated the school and didn't really think I fit in there. Have you visited each?

I've visited both before applying, but now that I have been accepted to both I will visit once more before my final decision.

i definitely recommend the hotel school. the alumni network is VERY powerful, so career placement is excellent.
