Cornell Human Ecology - ED 2024

Hey! I applied for the Health Care Policy major too.

You are the first user I have encountered who has done the same. Hopefully, we both get in! What are your interests in health care policy? Maybe we have some stuff in common.

@lpine23 would you happen to know any stats on NS? I applied Nutritional Science ED. Seems like a smaller group of students apply/accepted into the program.

I went to info session over the summer. The admin took notes on everyone as they were speaking about themselves. She also offered advice for some to look at CALS, instead of CHE.

You are not bound to the major you are interested in when applying. So how much weight does it really carry within different departments what you say you are interested in? My understanding is that you can major in anything once accepted, is this true?

transferring within CHE is as easy as filling out a sheet

Then why would a particular major within CHE be “harder” to be accepted in to? For example as others have posted HBHS is one of the hardest to get into. Wouldn’t they all be equally as competitive?

Hey guys! I also applied for Human Biology, Health, and Society. I can’t even describe how I’m feeling right now—maybe like elephant sized butterflies are wracking havoc in my stomach.

@nikkifay Super cool to hear other people like the HBHS too.

Definitely! It’s such a unique major and allows me to combine social science with healthcare which I’m extremely interested in.

@nikkifay thats exactly why I chose it too!!

is CHE board always this quiet?

I wish people talked more on it. Do people want to talk about EC’s or experience with their majors?

I often wonder about stats and ECs for HumEc!

Healthcare Policy Major, ECs as following:

  1. Robotics (Team Capt, 2 awards)
2)Sci Oly (Co pres, 1 award)
3)Pre-prof club (team award presenter, won $ for team)
    4)MUN (chair)
5)Research at local lab (I also have a minor research award with research not conducted at the lab but done on healthcare policy)
    6)Internship with local counselling service
  2. Quizbowl JV Captain
  3. Red Cross Club
  4. Honors Societys/ PTA
  5. Rowing (on a recreational team)

My EC’s are science-focused for the most part but I wrote my supp about how I tend to work across disciplines even in defined “subjects” (ex: in robotics I focus on social programs, in MUN I end up doing a lot of scientific research)

I hear the essay is very important

if this blog is indicative of the number of applications…we are all in!!

I hope so!! Would anyone happen to know if a letter is sent out and when it would arrive if accepted?

Hi all! I applied as a Human Biology, Health, and Society major.

ECs:

  1. Medical office intern since freshman year
  2. Interned at the District Attorney’s Office on an anti-opioid abuse campaign
  3. Interned for Lifestyles for the Disabled
  4. Interned for the New York City Council
  5. Shadowed an anesthesiologist in hospital
  6. Founder and President of a card-making community service club
  7. Secretary of Political Debate club 9th and 10th grade
  8. Interned at multi-specialty lab
  9. Private tutoring
  10. Volunteered for local political campaigns

In NHS, AutoCAD certified, placed Silver in the National Russian Essay contest.

I think my ECs are a good mix of healthcare, politics, and giving back to the community which is what HBHS is all about.

I’m so nervous and excited at the same time; one week left!

did everyone have the alumni interview?
