Cornell ILR transfers

Hey everyone,

this is for anyone hoping, or already admit to, Cornell's ILR school.

thanks matt this is an awesome group so we could really go into cornell knowing people… and the study group idea was awesome also… if we all attend

Hey guys!

I was admitted; however, I’m not sure if I can/will attend. I’ll know more once my finaid package arrives and when my options to attend other schools are clearer.

Have you signed up for housing? I signed up for housing in this order:
1-West Campus
2-Holland Intl.
3-Risley
4-McCLLU

I haven’t been able to visit the campus so I could only go off of the website information. Any insight into these options?

Um the study group idea was mine. humph ;-)

@Fox21: I placed West Campus as my number one choice and that’s it lol. How did you fill out your room preference. By room preference I mean, single, double, etc.

As much as I love Cornell and was honored to have been one of the few to receive a call, I’m not sure I’ll be able to attend.

@eyethink: I signed up in this order: (1) single, (2) double, (3) triple, (4) quad. I hope I get a single – I’m a neat freak so I can’t stand to room with others. What about you?

So have most of you guys signed up for housing? Did any of you request roommates? Also, do you guys think it’s okay to sign up for housing before you are sure you’re attending?

I did single, quad, double, triple. I’d prefer single but who knows. It is too bad we can’t choose which West Campus house we would like to live in.

hey can anyone tell me when they applied and when they were notified of their decision?

@shroomsm I applied in mid-February, and heard back a couple wks ago. Did you have a interview?

@transfers2010: I didn’t request any roommates (don’t know anyone there). I signed up and am waiting for finaid so I can decide if I can attend.

@eyethink: it would definitely be nice if we could choose a WC house!

Did anyone choose single rooms as their first choice even if they applied for FA? Would that be considered too picky? I honestly don’t care that much but I know I will be working at least part-time if I attend Cornell…

Does anyone want to make a fb page?

Has anyone else found that about getting in?

I feel like I’m not allowed on this page, since I’m not an admit (I know the O.P. said otherwise, lol, thanks for the inclusion).

:)

But I thought I’d hop on here for my waiting-for-decisions distraction, because the other thread has gotten out of control. No one listens… and I’m kinda surprised people who are so clearly lacking in the ability to read have even attempted to apply to Cornell in the first place…

Oh, did I just say that? Oops. That was inappropriate, my apologies…

(still, grr.)

So how’s it going in accepted-land?? I see you guys are working on housing stuff, sounds like fun! Is everyone in this group pretty sure they’ll be attending Cornell, or are there other, future decisions that may affect the outcome?

Either way, can you guys believe this? No matter what, SOMETHING crazy is going down, in just a matter of months. It’s really exciting. I mean, I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been stuck in my current succubus/black hole town for like 15 years. I’m sure it’s not that different from a lot of places, but still, I can’t help but feel like my life is wasting away here. But everything, literally everything, is about to get turned upside down. And I couldn’t be happier.

XD

…and…I wanna join your facebook page…

lol I feel like a little kid

Did anyone activate their NetId?

Hey guys. I’m planning on applying as a transfer and wanted to know your stats if possible. From what I can tell ILR has a pretty high acceptance rate (even without GTs, I think I saw a note that said “special students” weren’t included). I know why I want to go to ILR, so my essays would at least address that. What about GPA/ECs/etc? Did you guys finish all of the recommended prereqs? I will have most of them, but will probably be missing one.

Also, do transfers get GTs for later terms? If test scores aren’t required, are they expected? I scored pretty low out of HS, but have rebounded academically since then. Any advice on how to make this happen for me would be greatly appreciated. Congratulations on those who were accepted, hope you are enjoying your time at Cornell!

ok so i was just accepted for ilr this year… if ur hs record isint great… apply for a junior status after building a strong academic record at ur college for at least the 3 semesters before u apply…i actually only took 1 out of the many recommended courses… but here is what i think did it for me… my extra currics and my essays were geared all towards ilr… and i had a very good reason for wanting to be there… ilr is an extremely fit based school… meaning they r going to take the 1950 sat, 3.7 gpa that is a perfect fit for the curriculum over the 2400, 4.0 overall good student who just wants an ivy league school… so instead of going crazy on ur scores and grades… focus on ur essays and ur ecs… and make them see that you will be a perfect fit for their school… thats my 2 cents

@ctc: Welcome here anytime.

@matt: Nope. Have you? Do we get it once we pay the $400 intent to register fee?

@eyethink- thank you. :)

@gallatinguy- make that 4 cents. I concur with transfer9858. I dropped out of H.S., but my college record is exemplary. Unfortunately I haven’t been accepted to ILR (YET, hopefully!), so I can’t give my personal achievement as an example, but I’d still say transfer9858’s notions are sound. If you want your H.S. record to not count against you, you need a good chunk of college time under your belt-- speaking of which, does your screen name imply you’re at…um…is it NYU? I guess that’s off-topic, I’m just wondering why you want to transfer if that’s the case, because I’ve read about the Gallatin school and it sounds unique and interesting… In any case, definitely go for incredible recs and essays, but of course keep your college GPA up as well. I wouldn’t worry about old test scores/H.S. grades if you have everything else on par. Here’s an interesting thought, though- if you ARE at NYU, do you think you’ll have trouble obtaining quality recommendations? From what I hear it’s difficult to get good rec’s from 4 years, because the instructors can take it as betrayal, basically. I’m transferring out of a CC, so I didn’t have any trouble in that area, that’s just what I hear. I guess what I’m saying is, if you think that might be an issue, try to begin building relationships with your teachers now so you can guage who will be sympathetic to your needs and who will take your desire to transfer too personally, if you know what I mean.

Good luck!
