So the other day, my mom was watching a TV show on ABC called Ugly Betty, and she called me in and showed me a part where a doctor on the show mentions that his son goes to Cornell (majors in mechanical engineering). It made me realize that this is the first mention of Cornell I've seen in pop culture. Anyone else come across any mentions like this?

the office

I dont actually watch it but apparently one of the characters went to cornell

Yeah...unfortunatly the character is a pompous idiot.....not sure what that says about perceptions regarding Cornell......

hahahaha oh well

Um, a guy on battlebots went to Cornell. Christian Carlsburg of Cool Robots...Wow, I'm a loser...I haven't really seen Cornell mentioned in popular culture at all.

First time I heard of Cornell was in 8th grade when A Civil Action came out, a movie about a Cornell-trained lawyer from a small law firm that takes on a room full of Harvard lawyers working with a limitless budget.

Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock said Cornell's School of Hotel Administration was a good program in an episode :D

yeah, he was looking for a member another member for his entourage. Someone's nephew went there. At first, we thought Andy meant Cornell College, and was trying to use the Cornell name to make himself better...but since then he's been talking about the "Ivy League School" which he went to.

In the movie, Step Up, the main character's mom wants her to go to Cornell, complete with big close up shot of the Cornell application.

In Water For Elephants the main character was attending vet school at Cornell when he walked out of his final exams and ran away to join the circus.

^ oh yeah! i read that. and i remember the part in step up.

I already mentioned this in another thread but, the Twilight Series mentions Cornell a few times.

I too cringe whenever the jerk on The Office brags about going to Cornell, Here he is:
The Office TV Show Series on NBC: Find Video Webisodes Online NBC Official Site

Or how about a Cornell authored textbook appearing in Spiderman 2:
Cornell Engineering : Physics On Film

As he bends to pick them up amid an onslaught of passing book bags, the camera zooms in on the maroon cover of the book atop the stack: Introductory Quantum Mechanics, fourth edition, by Richard L. Liboff of Cornell. ** Then the book gets stepped on.**
