My kid has been accepted to CAS for the class of 2023. He also shows some interests in COE as well. We checked Cornell COE website, and found some information about internal transfer requirements. We are wondering how hard it would be for transfering from CAS to COE practically, if he decides to do later at Cornell? If he takes the required courses, and keeps decent GPA, what would the rough percentage that the transfer can be done? We would appreciate anyone who could share some successful stories here. Thank you.
I don’t know about rough percentages but I’ve seen the question asked before on the Cornell reddit and it is possible from what I’ve read there.
@mom2twogirls Thank you. I will search the info on reddit.
There’s an Internal Transfer Division that deal with all this.
Transfer should be possible if kid takes similar course sequence and does well. May have to make up a course or two.
But it is not guaranteed.
I doubt that they publish any stats, but back in my day they did not make it too onerous, if you had a good reason to do transfer and demonstrated you could handle the work they would generally let you.
But again, no guarantees.
As long as he does well in his courses and takes some COE courses in his field of interest and does well in them, there is usually no issue. I switched out of Hotel School to CS in Arts and it was not that big of a deal.
@monydad @HolyCheeseballs thank you!
