^ I disagree. HYP is at the top, then Dartmouth/Columbia/Brown, then Penn/Cornell (in terms of prestige/selectivity).
However, you can’t go wrong with ANY of them. They’re all awesome schools, and you should choose one based on fit rather than on prestige.

Cornell should watch its step, or it really could get kicked out of the Ivy League, just like Bob Jones University was.

theslowclap, It’s nice to see someone finally take a stand against EATYOURCEREAL

I think it’s dubious that Cornell is put in a tier below Brown, Dartmouth, or UPenn. Admission selectivity does not equal quality of education. I’ll cite again University of Chicago (very high admissions rate) and College of the Ozarks (very low admissions rate).

Cornell’s strongest or amongst the best in many fields, and trumped by other schools in other fields.

If you wanna consider Cornell as the worst school in the Ivy league, that’s still pretty damn good. Big deal if those schools are more “prestigious,” Cornell’s a better school than 99% of the rest of the schools on the planet anyway, so what difference would moving up one spot be? Negligible.

http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/aug08/usnews09.aj.html
I personally think COrnell pwns in math/science/engineering.

Chandlerbing, you merely rated by selectivity, didn’t you? I guess I can understand if people place UPenn above Cornell and Dartmouth even with it, but I certainly put Brown in a higher tier than Cornell, really?

aahahaha where in god’s name did you get this from. Care to try and justify it? Unless you have a good argument for this absurdity, we’ll continue to use U.S. news to judge prestige

…but Brown? seriously?

lol whining mid-pubescent boys.

seriously, whip em out and measure. get it over with already.

us news doesnt judge prestige, they just rank stuff according to various metrics. I agree with the HYP-DCB-PC ranking as far as prestige goes, if its going to be modified, then I could see it like this HYP-DC-BPC, but I dont see it like this HYP-DCP-CB, which is I think how you guys see it. Listen, no one really cares about USNWR rankings. You guys way over inflate the prestige of Penn. I think the most two over hyped schools are WashU and Penn.

what has Cornell ranked as far as popularity?

it was the hottest ivy i know for awhile…

This only exists in the minds of Penn students who worship USNWR as their god.

I’d say HYP/CC/the rest

^ Yeah growing up in NYS, that was my impression as well. HYP always were the “name brand” schools everyone knew of at an early age, but Columbia/Cornell were considered to be right under those. I think which state you’re from makes a difference in terms of perceived eliteness. And I bet outside the Northeast, most people don’t care about this stuff as much. Based on some of the stuff I’ve read on CC, Texans place Rice up there with the Ivies, but I never heard of it til i created an account here. And they probably don’t know of or care about Dartmouth or whatever.

Yes, kick Cornell out of the Ivy League because its acceptance rate is now at 19%, 1 -2% higher than the sainted UPenn (which is quite impressive considering Cornell is the largest Ivy league school and has many “specialty schools” that are not slaves to stats). Kick Cornell out of the Ivy League because it is ranked 2 spots ahead of the vaunted Brown University in USNWR. Kick Cornell out of the Ivy League because its Peer Assessment Score has been consistenly the same as the likes of the “almost HYP’s” Columbia University and UPenn and much higher than Dartmouth and Brown. Kick Cornell out of the Ivy League because numerous international ranking agencies and many domestic (non-USNWR) publications rank Cornell higher than Dartmouth, Brown, and occasionally UPenn. So OBVIOUSLY Cornell is simply not at the same playing level as the other Ivys.

I rest my case, can a brother get an amen?

bjomountsi09, I love you.

And growing up, I always considered Cornell to be more prestigious. But that’s because I loved Cornell. <3 I live in Florida, and almost everyone and their mom applied to Cornell this year.

Most didn’t know Dartmouth or Penn were Ivies.

Not saying that they are bad schools, just saying that prestige-wise, they suck down here.

That’s hilarious.

For me it’s like this:

Cornell/the rest…

But seriously guys, this is ridiculous. You all know Cornell is the best school in the world. Just admit it. The reason HYP is so prestigious is because they systematically discriminated against the jewish and minorities, which led to a very “selective” group of schools. Discuss…

Yeah well HYP suck at engineering in comparison =)

haha…“In my world everyone’s a pony, and they eat rainbows and poop butterflies.” A shout out to Horton Hears a Who and to Tboonepickens for reminding me.
