What IHATECEREAL means is that to say no one cares about the USNWR rankings would be to ignore a significant subset of the population, a group that worships the list and looks to admissions data to guide them. One could call this subset of people pretentious, prestige-driven, and idiotic, but they do have a name: Penn students.

I disagree. HYP is at the top, then Dartmouth/Columbia/Brown, then Penn/Cornell (in terms of prestige/selectivity).

That’s hilarious.

xSteven: It’s not hilarious… that’s how they’re grouped in terms of acceptance rates, and therefore, in many people’s eyes, prestige.
In my opinion, Cornell’s programs are better than that of a lot of those Ivies’. I’d say Cornell gives a MUCH better undergraduate experience than Harvard, since Harvard’s all about the grad/not a standout in non-economics/government areas.

Rankings are just stupid. Go to the Ivy you like the most (or the ones that you get into…) or just don’t go to an Ivy at all.
Oh and yes, of course you should kick Cornell “out of Ivy” (good use of grammar there, buddy) because, you know, Cornell has AWFUL engineering and TERRIBLE sciences and a REALLY homogeneous student body. Oh, and not to mention what a joke their Hotel program is.

^Sarcasm, btw. In case anyon was about to flame me…

If you have a problem with Cornell, then just go to your precious Penn/Harvard/whatever.

For me it’s like this:

"Cornell/the rest…

But seriously guys, this is ridiculous. You all know Cornell is the best school in the world. Just admit it. The reason HYP is so prestigious is because they systematically discriminated against the jewish and minorities, which led to a very “selective” group of schools. Discuss…

EXACTLY!!! AMEN AMEN!!!

Cornell and Penn both accomodate a larger amount of students… so… their acceptance rate will obviously be higher.

^^ I still haven’t read that book: The Chosen. I hear it’s very interesting.
