cornell laundry

how much does it cost to do a load of laundry?

Is there dry-cleaning on campus? (Yes, I plan to do my own laundry lol - but I have some clothes that are dry-clean only.)

There is on campus dry cleaning, especially available to first year students (in the student center).

Costs 1.25 to run a load. Same to dry of course. Laundry machines work using a declining balance account linked to your student I.D. You add money to the account at the beginning of the year and then you can add more online as the year goes on. The charge goes straight to your bursar bill. Over the first semester, i think i spent about 50-75 bucks on laundry. And I'm a guy....and not an overly fashion-conscious one at that. I have friends who probably spent $200 doing laundry lol. Now do you see why kids at Cornell whine about being "nickel and dimed to death"?

Sometimes it took me two drying cycles to dry my clothes. The low heat and short time cycles were not good enough. And some of the washing machines don't do a good job of spin-drying your clothes.

I don't know when most students would do their laundry. I would always do it on Sunday mornings when everyone else was asleep.

there are washing machines in the dormitories right?

Yes, washers and dryers. But I think there were some dorms on West Campus that didn't have laundry rooms. Students had to walk to another building. But that should be changed within the next 10 years since new dorms are being built.

doing laundry blows big time. sooo...i just don't do it :) i bring it all home on breaks

what about the city, or u of ithica? could we go there for cheaper prices and better machines?

It's not that big of a deal.

make sure to clean the filter/lint and that the window are not foggy (a sure sign the dryer is broken) I didn't spend much last year because there were always machines that were "broken" aka they worked w/o putting $$ in. but those were always taken, so you would have to do your laundry at odd hours. although they said that the $$ don't go over year to year, my friend still had about $100 in her account last year and it DID roll over (so did my own 0.75 balance).
