Cornell or Amherst

go to Amherst, friends who go there tell me it is an incredible, sure Cornell may have an international reputation but believe me it's about the undergraduate experience, and Amherst caters to that and Cornell, i assure you, does not

after you graduate you have tons of options, and if you do well pretty much your pick of grad school/employer not to mention money in your pocket that you saved. i would say you would have the same options as a graduate from Cornell only you didn't work your ass off nearly as much to get that degree.

also, economics in my opinion is a much better major than "business" or some bs like that. it's about the true theory and mathematics behind the science of business in the real world, and once you master this all this "real-world application" stuff will come like butter since you know the theory behind what you actually see in practice like in a job on Wall Street.

what is a college student doing citing the WSJ feeder rankings as a credible source to say what college is better at placement than another?

Then again, what was up with the WSJ using facebook to collect data for nearly half of the schools it investigated.

There is a lack of information on this particular subject. If you disagree with what I have provided, I emplore you to provide some evidence of your own.

And I did not know the WSJ used facebook. That loses a ton of credibility.

"If you disagree with what I have provided, I emplore you to provide some evidence of your own."

I dont have evidence of my own because it does not exist. My point is we shouldn't make comparisons of the two schools' ability to feed students into top grad programs ... both are excellent, we know for sure, but no evidence exists that will show that one is 'clearly better' than the other. Amherst may very well be 'better' at placing students into Duke Med than Cornell, but proof doesn't exist, or at least I have never seen it. Until information like this arises, no assumptions should be made.

If the study hadn't used facebook, I would disagree.

well of course you would disagree, I would too. But, what other criterion would they have used? Unless it was information released by the colleges themselves (which is information that many don't release), everybody must read the WSJ stuff with extreme caution.

I wonder why colleges don't release such information...

if i were in charge, i wouldn't release the information so students would pick my college based on the experience rather than how well it will serve as the 'bridge' to getting them into a different school in the end.

OR, if your college was ranked high but was somewhat bad at placing students into top grad programs, as compared to other peer schools, you may not want that information getting out.

(and I'm not talking about Cornell here...a different school comes to mind)

I am sincerely grateful to you all for taking your time to assist me in making my college decision. I want you all to know that your thoughts were all taken into consideration and they were very very valuable. After careful thought and prayer, I have decided to go with Cornell. On monday, I am calling Amherst to defer my acceptance to the fall semester, before I leave for New York tomorrow to begin my new life this spring. (To leave room for error)

I am quite excited and anxious and really hope I made the right decision. I have applied for scholarships which will hopefully kick in the fall semester and put my faith in God.

Moreover, I give God the Glory for giving me an wonderful year in 2006 which came with promotion, as I look forward to having a better year at Cornell University.

Hey congrats on ur decision! You definitely couldn't go wrong and I'm sure u'll have a great time these coming years! Best of luck with everything!

Congratz.....
making us the next incoming freshman can't wait to experience Cornell
