cornell or dartmouth?

i got accepted to both and i really love both of them...but i don't know which one to choose!!
can anyone give me any suggestions?
im really science based, but I lik a small class size. im planning to go pre-med. i feel lik i would have a hard time at cornell than at dartmouth, yet it may have a better "program" for med school.

I think the sciences would be better at Cornell, and although there is a much bigger undergraduate population, I’ve been told that the separate colleges give the school a smaller feel. Plus, I’m going to Cornell, so you should too.

If you like the outdoor scene, both colleges are great choices. You might want to check out med school acceptance rates from undergrad for both of the schools… I know Cornell’s is like 85%.

Dartmouth would be the better choice if you like small class sizes and a small campus, although its social scene is heavily oriented around the Greek system. Also, I think Dartmouth has a little bit more prestige if that turns you on.

Cornell, on the other hand, has a huge campus and a larger student body. The social scene is more diverse and not all people get involved in the Greek system. Both schools are pretty much in the middle of nowhere but Ithaca has a nice Collegetown area by Cornell.

I think Cornell would be better for sciences.

(Honestly, I think Dartmouth is slightly overrated and gets more attention that it deserves just because it’s Ivy; despite my personal bias, Dartmouth is still a good school, just not as good as Cornell.)

to be honest, the academics are quite similar at each school, and neither would give one a leg up in med school admissions as opposed to the other. You should base your decision on fit and where you want to spend the next 4 years, not on academics. Do you like a large school, or small school, do you like the Dplan or the semester schedule, do you like research uni, or LAC, do you like being on hill, or in a valley, do you want to be in a frat (dmouth) or not be ina frat (possible at cornell).

check US news rankings for graduate schools in science and engineering. Cornell is the only Ivy that is consistently in the top 5 or 6. What that means is that you will have a lot more research opportunities because the science faculty is so famous. Research is incredibly important when you are applying to medical school.

I graduated from Williams College and my best friend went to Cornell. We were both premed but he was able to do research with Jon Kleinberg and Hod Lipson, who, if you look them up, they are basically the top computer scientists out there. I’m in medical school now so it worked out but still, he goes to Johns Hopkins medical school…

i know everyone else is saying cornell, but i have to suggest dartmouth. while cornell has an excellent pre-med concentration, dartmouth also has an excellen undergrad science program. cornell definitely has good science programs, but they’re more known for their engineering (and obviously for their specialty schools like hotel administration). and yes, you would definitely have a harder time at cornell than dartmouth. at cornell your chemistry and calc classes can literally have over 400 people in them. there are a lot of really, REALLY big lecture classes (mostly based in math and science). dartmouth classes are smaller and the professors seem to be much more involved.
still, cornell is a research institution and you might have more opportunities for your own undergrad research (i’m not really too familiar with such programs at dartmouth).
overall i’d say dartmouth. it’s much more selective (though of course comparable to cornell) and really does offer excellent academic programs in a variety of fields. it’s small enough to offer individual attention to students, but big enough not to feel claustrophobic. good luck and keep cc posted on your decision!

Cornell’s science programs outside of engineering are both outstanding and well known for being same.

Both as fantastic at getting students into med school. Its more about fit and what you are looking for. Also Dartmouth does an amazing job with med school advising and with undergrad research/grants.
