I was wondering which school, Cornell or Duke, would be a better choice. I plan on majoring in biology for pre-med. I am also interested in chemistry. I would greatly appreciate any information.

Ignore the highlights. That's just how I find the thread.

Cornell probably has a larger grade deflation than Duke, meaning if you're determined, your academic record might be more impressive in Cornell. Plus I heard from a lot of people that Cornell prepares their medical students well. But, on the other hand, Duke has a better reputation...

Duke's acceptance rate is around 85%. Cornell's is around high 70's-low 80's. Not too much of a difference. I suggest going to the place you like better.

Do make a note that Cornell's medical center is all the way across the state. This is not a deal-breaker, but it does limit your ability to do research projects and volunteer in the medical school/hospital.

i heard that most of the research you would do at Cornell would be ON campus.

Right, so this would limit your ability to do clinical research and would restrict you to extremely basic science. Like I said, this is not by any means a deal-breaker, but it does matter somewhat.

Hospital volunteering is relatively easy to get. I suppose if you MUST do research at a med school during the school year, you're out of luck w/ Cornell. Otherwise, there's plenty of research opps. on campus as well.

My D was admitted into Mount Sinai from Duke. They were looking for geographic diversity and being from a southern school helped alot. If you're looking for a notheastern med school, Duke is a better choice.
