Cornell or Duke?

Which would you pick for pre med out of Cornell or Duke? It's that simple. Don't question anything, just state which one YOU would pick and why. Go!!

Hm, tough call. I like them both. If pushed, I’d have to say Duke simply because of the warmer weather.

Cornell’s med school is in NYC, while Duke’s is on campus (or close to it?). That may make a difference.

Definitely Duke.

Duke.
One of my close friends attends there as a premed, as well as a psychology and microbiology triple major. I feel that Duke’s medical program is better than Cornell’s.

I would say Duke is the better choice, but not by too much.

Doesn’t matter.

Whoa! I am surprised by your answer CornellDelight. What factor is it that you think makes Duke slightly better?

I think CornellDelight gave a very mature answer. He’s very unlike most of the CC ppl who would say that their schools are better than any other schools. Anyway, I think the reason why it’s better to take premed at Duke because Cornell has this label as the hardest Ivy to survive in. So, if you wanna get into a Med school, your chances of doing well in ur premed classes are better at Duke. But I dont go to any of those schools…so I dont know if the “cut throat” thing is for real or not.

They are both great for premed. However, for overall college experience, I would choose Duke. Choose the school that you like the best… don’t choose it based on which pre-med program is easier.

Also, look into Rice’s pre-med program… we are next to the world’s largest medical center and Rice has many partnerships with the hospitals and institutions at the Texas Medical Center.

Cornell…

Good advice slik nik. Could you give us some insight on your answer for Cornell, Cuse0507?

You asked what would you (implying myself) pick for premed-Cornell or Duke? Well, given that I go to UNC, I only had to think about it for about half a second before I was able to make a decision. :)

Seriously though, and bias aside, you can’t go wrong. Good luck with your decision.

I said Duke because Cornell’s pre-med program is known to be hit with huge deflation (average bio/chem/physics grades are almost always B-/B for those classes). While this is neccesary at Cornell to prevent an excessive amount of medical school applicants, Cornell is still known to be much more work. The reason they are both very close still is because Cornell does still send the most undergrads to med school (attributed to big class size and med schools possibly recognizing the deflation). Duke is also a better all-around school for a pre-med student in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, I still would have chosen Cornell over Duke for what I was looking for, but I feel that Duke has a minor advantage in the pre-med field.

Duke premed classes are also B- average with one standard deviation above A-. Grade deflation is quite bad in those classes.

I don’t think it makes a difference. I would recommend one go for fit.

Cornell recently had a $400 million infusion into Life Sciences programs including a new biology building. I don’t think you should shy away from the strong work ethic at Cornell. The more you learn, the better. You eventually have to take the MCATS.
