If you had option to go to either of the schools which one will you choose? I heard Syracuse has great communication program but Cornell has the prestige and all the other stuff that comes with it.

I would go to Cornell. Communications seems like it would require some help to get a job with it and Cornell would have better career resources and alumni connections.
And the prestige doesn’t hurt.

I’m going to be tremendously blunt (my apologies in advance). Try to avoid majoring in Communications in general. Do a similar major (English, History, PoliSci) while taking the communications classes you like. Although you look fwd to that major, understand that it’s populated by many whose scholarly chops aren’t the best and employers know this. You may be brilliant, but you’ll be lumped with the not-so-brilliant.

Syracuse dad here. S. I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse offers a great combination of hands on and theory applications. Newhouse has great job placement and a strong alumni network. In general, Communications majors do not start with great salaries. Newhouse students are required to take a minor. Many have a second major and there are several dual programs with the Whitman School of Management, the I School, and the College of Arts & Sciences. Cornell, of course, has many outstanding programs. Good luck to you.
