Okay so i know it's getting late for this but i really need some help. (im posting this on the umd board too to see what they say) Although I wasnt accepted, I was waitlisted at cornell and im trying to decide if i should set my heart on cornell and do my best to try to get off the waitlist... and then if i do, go there or jusr stick with UMD. First off, I havent made any contact with cornell since i found out that i was waitlisted besides saying yes to the waitlist. Because of this, did i really screw up my chances for getting in already?! I was admitted into the UMD honors program (nicer honors housing, smaller honors classes instead of large intro lectures) with the presidental scholarship for 2k. My major is probably going to be either bio or chem at UMD or just bio at cornell (pre-med route). As for cost, i applied to cals(because im from nys) so umd and cornell are basically equal in cost. My fears about cornell include the pressure, stress (i want to have fun in college too!), grade deflation, as well as its kind of in the middle of nowhere and consequently would be hard to get home (whereas from collegepark i could just take the metro and a quick flight back home) plus... it's cold. Additionally, im not really sure that i want to do pre-med because it's been a long while since i took a bio course. But then again, it's an amazing school, has the prestige and i feel like socially i would fit in really well. Please give me some input (saying that i get into cornell... what should i do?)! Thanks so much!

anyone? :(

I don't think it would be useful to get your heart set on Cornell at this point as you are waitlisted. Start thinking postively about UMd Honors. It is a very good school, academically and socially. That said, it wouldn't hurt to try to maximize your options by sending a letter to Cornell indicating that you continue to be interested in attending Cornell and hope to be taken off of the waitlist. Then forget about Cornell. If you do get off of the waitlist at some point, then come back to discuss your options.

if you are waitlisted, there's a big chance you won't get in, so try to accept UMD- although i am an extremely optimistic person, i must say, at times like these, you should expect the worst, so when you get in to cornell, the acceptance will be 10x sweeter :D
best of luck with cornell :D

no, try and get off the waitlist if you can- send another rec... at least try...

thanks, the reason why i am flipping out now is because if im going to consider it, i need to visit (like in the next week while classes are still in session) so im just trying to figure everything out (if i would even go if i get in...).

you will regret not trying. im not saying dont put a deposit in at umd, but at least if you try youllfeel like you did something

what's UMD?

I assume UMD is University of Maryland - College Park.
