ok here is the dilemma. i absolutely love connecticut, and ive always wanted to attend yale ever since i moved from connecticut (i still have a house like 10 min from yale). the problem is im pretty much sure im underqualified for yale (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=219430) but i may still have an extremely slim chance of getting in. on the other hand i think i have a better chance of getting into cornell, than yale, but only if i apply ED, which means IF i get accepted im forfeiting any chance of attending undergrad at yale. but if i ED for yale and go through regular admissions for cornell, i may not get into cornell. so, yes im stuck. :(

Yale is SCEA, not ED. Also, if yale is your dream school, go for it! No one is holding you back but yourself...

why go straight from the top of the ivies to the bottom? (I keed, I keed). Try the other 6 schools in between.u

Regardless of the Ivy League, there are plenty of schools that are more Yale/CT-esque than Cornell...Life along the northeast corridor (also known as the Bos-wash megaopolis) is similar to CT in climate, urban/suburban density, and distinctively northeastern attitude. Check out Brown, Penn, and others between Boston and DC.

your post kind of ****ed me off

i think the question you need to be asking yourself is which school do you want to attend, and not which school is easier to get into. after figuring that out, apply early to the school.

I'd go with Yale, then; even though your chances will be slim, you'll kick yourself if you don't go for your top choice... Make sure you write an essay and get recommendations from people that go into detail about what sets you apart from "the crowd."

Also, you might consider applying to Wesleyan, Trinity and Connecticut College, as well as schools in the "five colleges area" (which is just 15 minutes from Connecticut) if you want to be in that area. There are other nearby, good schools such as Vassar and Brown as well.

JohnnyK, Please never make the slightest mistake of coming to Cornell in the near future, or I would serve u a swift kick to the nuts for no cost at all...

Go for Yale

There is nothing wrong with applying SCEA to Yale, even if it is a long shot for you. But remember that many applicants are deferred from Yale and other schools in the early application round. So you must also identify and be prepared to apply to match and safety schools that you would be happy to attend in the event Yale doesn't work out.

Yes, even the best, supposedly "shoo-in" applicants need to do that as well, odyssey. Yale has the only sub-20% early round acceptance rate in the Ivy League, and the lowest acceptance rate overall as well.

But their SCEA overall acceptance rate was four percent higher than Harvard's!

One of my best friends got rejected by Cornell and accepted at Yale (and Harvard). An anomaly to be sure, but it still happened. If you want to go to Yale more, it's ridiculous to even consider applying to Cornell- I really don't get your logic (I know, I know- you want to get in somewhere, right? And out of the four options- Cornell ED, Yale ED, Cornell RD, Yale RD- Cornell ED seems to you your best shot.) But that's just ridiculous. If you want to go to Yale, apply to Yale.

well said regadalf.

Apply to Yale SCEA. The fact that you really love Connecticut (and therefore Yale) will not help your case if you decide to apply Cornell ED because it will show all over your essays somehow that your heart is not 100% for Cornell. Cornell will see this and reject you.

I agree regadalf. Go Yale SCEA. If you get rejected, at least you tried.

even though...i live in connecticut and at least new haven is definately not what all of connecticut is like...but if you said you lived there then go for it.

if you are going to live your life regretting that you didnt apply to yale then go for it. just show how much you really honestly want to go through your essays etc. make them say wow, this girl didnt just change the university name on her essays. open their eyes, and i say...go for it.

or boy :-)
