it seems that among CC members, Cornell is the most popular university. i can tell because it has the most threads out of any Ivy league forum. does anyone else find that weird? Cornell is probably the least popular Ivy in terms of desire to study there and prestige and all that. so why is it the most popular topic of conversation?

How do you figure it’s the least popular in terms of desire to study? It has about 35,000 applicants, which is the most. So, perhaps the number of conversations relates to the number of applicants.

If you’re just talking prestige, I’m not sure it’s so cut and dry as you make. Brown generally ranks lower and, internationally, Cornell’s reputation is far superior to others. Specific programs within Cornell are certainly held with higher regard than many in higher schools, too.

while I agree with applejack, (recall, much?) I’d assume it’s mostly because Cornell is the most accessible school among the other Ivies. A lot of top students (but not “Harvard top”) feel like they have a shot at Cornell, thus, the more inquiries and threads.

It attracts a wide range, what with its vastly different colleges.

Yeah I noticed that too! Strange, right? At first I though it was because Cornell had a student body about 2-3 times larger than its Ivy League peers and a scope of unique programs and colleges that appealed to a larger pool of candidates than the typical LA-oriented Ivy League model but then I LOL’d at that notion because Cornell is obviously an undesireable place to study! So I’m with you dude, if anyone can clue us in as to why such an unprestigious “institution” (lol if we can even call it that) is getting so much unwarranted attention, we’d be much obliged.

I feel my logic is pretty infallible.

lol caillebotte. +1 :)

because cornell students have no lives

That is weird. Cornell should be kicked out of the ivy league–oh no, the flames are rising-- and people should stop applying and see that it’s not worth it to even go here; too many horrible nobel laureates have gone through cornell, and according to US News, that’s one of the many indications which speak of a weak institution.

wait, cornell wasn’t your safety? people actually WANT to be there?! ridiculous.

No need for sarcasm guys. I’m sure mickjagger’s attitude towards Cornell will come through quite clearly in his application. And you know the admissions office just loves a guy who doesn’t really want to come to Cornell.

i would assume it’s because it’s the largest school (a lot of students/accepted students post threads), and is the easiest to get into, making it the “ivy safety” for many- i.e. ppl apply not b/c they want to attend, but b/c they want to say they’ve been accepted into an ivy.
and then, those who apply for the latter reason get their butts kicked b/c their essays reflect their attitude quite clearly

OP-- Maybe, just maybe, this is a sign of your developing maturity and intelligence. You learn about and investigate things. You then develop your own opinion vs. believing whatever you read written by inexperienced, biased and unknowledgeable people.

Congratulations!

i actually wholeheartedly respect Cornell; it is my favorite Ivy because it mixes technology and the arts, whereas most others excel in the arts and not so much in the area of technology. that is why i am applying there; the reason i started this forum was that i was confused because i assumed MOST thought Cornell was less prestigious than other Ivies.

dont know about you guys but im on here a lot cause i have no life and nothing better to do even though my mcat is coming up in less than 2 weeks. i assume those harvard kids are all studying or researching or something to be on here

It’s the weather.

i’m with monydad on this one& will correct my self-
it’s def. the weather. screw population& acceptance rate.

there are those suckers that opt for sunshine& warmth, but not for us Cornellians.
you could say our motto is:
“give me snowstorms, or give me death.”

op- if you don’t like the cold, reconsider your application
and this i don’t mean sarcastically.
