Hello! I just received my acceptance letter in the mail and it says my acceptance is conditional on my completion of the Cornell Prefreshman Summer Program. I googled this was hardly able to find any information on it, so I decided to ask here.
Does anyone know why I have to complete this program in order to attend?
What are the benefits of going?
Does anyone have any first hand experience of this program?
I’m pretty upset that my acceptance is conditional on this to be honest. I would have to go to Cornell from basically as soon as a graduate to close to move in day.
Thanks for any input
I also just got the letter in the mail. It says I am required to attend as well, which is inconvenient for me since my graduation is June 25 and other high school related events are happening that week as well. I was reading the included packet and it says HEOP and EOP students are required to attend, so I am assuming I have been admitted through one of these programs, although I have not received any clear notification of this form of acceptance.
What I am confused about is that although the letter says I am required to attend PSP, at the bottom of the letter it says that program space is limited and that I should send the completed contract as soon as possible. My question is if all the spots were to be taken, would I still be required to go? Why would they say space is limited yet make it a requirement to go? But if I am in fact required to go, then I guess I’ll see you there.
@NorthEastCoast I am in the same situation as you (Graduation June 22). From what I saw when googling stuff, since our attendance is mandatory, we have priority over others (meaning if its full before we apply, we will still be given a spot).
Although I am starting to warm up to the idea of starting my college experience earlier, I am also still uneasy about giving up what I consider my last summer of no real commitments (internships, research, school, etc.)
@ncolonna I feel the same too. Don’t get me wrong, I am super excited about going to Cornell, it’s just that I was hoping to spend my last few weeks of high school with my friends and teachers (surprisingly) and spend time with my family as well.
What if we’re required to attend it but can’t? For me, my acceptance was conditional on completing this program but my prom, graduation rehersal, graduation, and last day of school are all after June 17th.
@bittercoffeenyc on the letter i got that described the program, it said that special arrangements would be made for those that graduate after the 17th
I just got a second letter in the mail from the college of engineering that explained the program further
What additional clarification did the new letter have? Do it make the program optional? How many and what type of classes do you have to take?
I found a website that has some information on the Prefreshman Summer Program that may provide some additional insight.
A lot of the students seem to like it, and felt that it was very beneficial.

Hey, I received this condition as well! It seems really fun and I am really considering it. My only concern is it says that one must successfully complete the program. What, by their standards, would be considered failing? Would it be receiving an actual F in your courses? and are these courses especially rigorous?
@Carrotcake17 i have the same question as you. Im visiting for a weekend next week and i am trying to arrange a meeting with the people in charge of this program
