Cornell Premed help?

I have a huge dilemma!

I'm almost sure that I want to follow a premed path and med school.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get there.

My parents really want me to apply to College of Engineering, but I've heard nasty rumours about the difficulty of premed @ CoE.

CALS would be my second choice, but I'm not as good of a fit as I am for CoE.

What about HumEc or CAS?

I am desperate for guidance. I have a nagging fear that I won't make med school if I follow the engineering premed route.

Are Duke, Northwestern, and Washu equally tough in terms of competition or GPA?

Thanks everyone!

Hey, I'm a premed bioengineer at cornell. I'm a senior in the middle of applying to medical school.

You're right, engineering is not an easy major....but it's also not impossible. I actually started out in arts and sciences, and made a switch into the engineering college.

I personally really like the engineering program. I really have learned a lot, and everyone I know in engineering also did well on the MCAT...so I think we were really well prepared.

My advice is if you think you'll like engineering, then go for it! Ultimately you should choose your major based on personal interest, and you will probably do well in a major that you actually enjoy.

Also keep in mind that there is some flexibility once you get to Cornell. As long as you're in good academic standing, you should be able to switch colleges should you decide to do so, and have a good reason why you'd like to switch.

Hope that helps...feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

I'm a wash U premed, and I can tell you that pre med here is also pretty tough. I'm pretty sure pre med is hard anywhere, with slight variation here and there.
